    Pixhawk Feedback?

Ok, two parts. First, I am not 100% sure on what happens when you change modes. Does the mission restart from #1? I don't know. What I do when I want to restart a mission, is disarm, and rearm. That's what I did there. I didn't do anything on the laptop. I just shut down, disarmed in...

    Pixhawk Feedback?

It is to the military. They spend 100 times that amount on a tiny helicopter that I have heard doesn't really even work very well. ;) http://www.proxdynamics.com/products/pd-100-black-hornet-prs

    Pixhawk Feedback?

I'm sure that the military has larger UAV helicopters that can fly that well. But I've been monitoring specs on the small systems, and most seem limited to 76 km/h. And that's for larger machines than this, 600-800 size. Mine is just a 500 size, not very big at all. And then of course...

KDE Direct has added Multi-Rotor Heli motors to their lineup

Sorry, I don't have an opinion to give you on which APC props would work on that setup. But off the top of my head, I'd think that 12" props with those low-ish KV motors isn't going to work well.

    Align M690

I'm interested in these things, but, if my experience with Align helicopters is any guide, this thing will have good mechanics, mediocre electronics (motors and ESCs) and pretty crap electronics. Nobody likes Align's flybarless controllers, and the APS autopilot isn't very good from what I've...

    Pixhawk Feedback?

Latest testing yesterday with 3.2 rc9 on my helicopter. From what I'm aware of, this is above military grade performance. Nobody has a VTOL UAV that can perform like this. :cocksure:

    Pixhawk Flight modes

No, it's definitely possible. And actually sort of easy on a multirotor. It's helicopters that are super tricky since they are asymmetric in flight, with the tail rotor constantly pushing it sideways, which requires a bit of roll to counter. But the amount is constantly changing depending...

    Pixhawk Flight modes

Ah. Ok, so the problem is this. The way the drift mode works, is that the "turn input" actually gives us a yaw rate, not a roll rate. The roll is fully automatic. The system attempts to eliminate lateral movement as detected by the GPS. So you lead with yaw, which results in "skidding"...

    Pixhawk Flight modes

That's interesting. I usually hear that Arducopter is actually not as "smooth" in Loiter as DJI is. And I've seen plenty of video evidence that I believe it. It's the one place where I think they have an edge on us. Arducopter holds position well, but it's usually "busy". DJI just seems to...

    Motor Failure

Here's what I have learned over the years, and this applies to more than just multirotors: If somebody says "This is the the one, singular answer. The be-all end-all. Listen to me, I'm an expert. Everything else is crap. Do as I say." that usually means they don't really have the answers...

    Motor Failure

I agree that the PDB designs on the market are overly large, overly complicated, poorly designed and expensive. I like things simple, cheap, and that "just work". This is what I have done in the past. I simply used large copper washers from McMaster and directly soldered all the wires. On...

    Motor Failure

I didn't say you did, but it's a common argument, and I believe it's been used in regards to the Herkules. I'm just pointing out that there's a lot of anti-science in this industry.

    Pixhawk Feedback?

It is now sort of possible to have voltage from two separate batteries, but it is not possible to have current from two.

    Pixhawk Flight modes

I still have to get my brain around the fact that Position Hold doesn't mean what it used to mean... I don't really get that Loiter is abrupt on stop/go. I find it's actually too slow. I set Loiter speed to 20 m/s on my helis, and they stop like a freight train in Loiter mode.

    Motor Failure

If it didn't hold in GPS mode, but was able to in manual mode, then it would seem like the programming or tuning of the WKM was the cause. Because obviously there was physically enough thrust. I'd suspect the Yaw I-term could not grow big enough. But that's just a guess.

    Motor Failure

But it's not that much different than "it's expensive, so it must be good". ;)

    Pixhawk Feedback?

Yes, you can just use any hobby BEC, set to 5V, and plugged into the servo rail. You won't get current and voltage sensing without doing a bit more work. But that's all you need at a minimum.

    Pixhawk Feedback?

I'm flying it now on helicopters using 6S and 8S. It can be done, but you do need to know a little about electricity. I just power the Pixhawk with a high-voltage rated BEC. I keep hearing about 3DR making a high voltage power module, but I don't know when it will be released. I think some...

    Pixhawk Feedback?

Are you sure? In Canada, the rules read as if fully automatic flight is not allowed. In fact, it also states that the required system response from a loss of control signal is for the system automatically end the flight. However, I talked to the lead UAV regulations guy at Transport Canada, who...
