I realize that. The point is that if it can accommodate an asymmetrical quad I see no reason it wouldn't work with 8 motors since the other 4 are in the same location respectively.

From what I understood it didnt like the asymmetrical XY8 config but was ok with a Y6 or X8. Which is weird because they have their own model with asymmetrical arms.
