This incident kinda ties into a dilemma that has been nagging at me since I started. Is RTH the most appropriate "Fail Safe" response from a TX - FC system?? Given the number of GPS related fly-away/screw-ups and general advise to NOT fly in GPS mode, it seems a bit nonsensical to rely on this...

Hehe I went full circle. DJI 450 quad > DJI 550 hex > TBS Disco Pro quad. ESCs, receiver and the Naza are about the only original things left on the Disco now but all motors, Naza, ESCs, LEDS and receiver made the round trip initially. And you are right, the DJI opto ESCs are a bit too small...

Man, I am so sorry to hear of your loss - very un-cool! Can I ask if you were using any of the "Intelligent" modes? I have seen similar things happen to an APM where it decided to switch modes (apparently) all on it's own when flying in IOC mode. C

Thanks for the video and shots of the box contents. I confess to being a bit disappointed that this was not really a "review", that maybe putting a BMPCC on it and powering it up might have been more interesting :) Then of course you might have mounted it on a copter of some sort and flown it...

I'd like to hear from someone using those 70A ESC too. They sound really big (your motors are rated at 50A max) and I don't know what programming options are available for them… did they come with a programming card? By all means get it flying with the Naza, but I would want something smarter...

Maybe check orientation of there FC and triple check the numbers in the GPS antenna mounting config (watch for the negative numbers). Also maybe check motor numbering against the motor diagram in the manual- use the motor check option in the assistant WITHOUT props attached :) It's a bit late...
