    Another one bites the dust...

So what's your answer to the question, 'how far is safe'?

    Another one bites the dust...

Totally off topic - One of my claims to fame is that when I was 12 I stalled a B-52 on take off. Of course, I was in a simulator back in the days when these things took up an entire train carriage but it was quite exciting. Alarms were going off and the floor was moving. I'll never forget it...

    Another one bites the dust...

A warning for what? Don't fly over a river unless you are willing to hire a diver to recover it? Ok.

    Another one bites the dust...

I'm pleased to see the tone of this thread change to the positive. I actually used this video as an example of how to do the right thing. I really feel for the pilot. We all know how it feels to have something like this happen and it's simply awful. I don't wish it on anyone for any reason. I...

MultiWii / NAZE / SP Racing F3 Anyone using APM 2.5 for aerial filming?

I'm setting up a Droidworx SkyJib Lite X4 coax right now that I plan to use an APM 2.5 on with Arducopter. I started with two 3D Robotic's copters and have been working with APM for about six months with Canberra UAV (see http://canberrauav.com). I'm hoping that the PX-4 will be updated and...

Aeronavics / Droidworx Droiderbuilt SkyJib Lite 4x

They are mounted to a DW PDB. Although I left the wires a bit too long so it's not tidy enough for me. I'll be redoing it tonight.

Aeronavics / Droidworx Droiderbuilt SkyJib Lite 4x

Well, my build isn't going well at all. Fortunately Blurex lives close enough for me to drop in on and vent. I seem to have ordered just as DW are introducing new models and therefore I'm the first to get the Tiger 4014 motors which should have been shipped with oval motor mounts and some sort...

    Legality of Aerial Photography?

Well, if they don't know the legislation that applies to their business activities then they aren't very good at their business now are they? I'd imagine they all know but don't care. However, others have been shut down so why make such an investment if it's all at risk? At least here in Aus...

    Legality of Aerial Photography?

That clause does not exempt you from the rules in section 101 of the safety regulations. If you don't believe me then I'll send you a copy of the letter I was sent from CASA warning me that videos I had posted on YouTube indicated that I was not aware of the regulations. It also mentioned the...

Aeronavics / Droidworx Droiderbuilt SkyJib Lite 4x

Thanks for taking the time to post all this info. I've found the entire thread really useful as I build a DW SJLX4 myself. You mentioned a 'safety beacon' in one of your posts. Is that to locate the bird if it goes off on an adventure? What is it that you are using? Cheers.

Octocopter at the Arnold Palmer Invitational 2013

It's the final shots that count and if the client was happy then you did a good job. Serious question, how did the players react to it? Did any of them express concern etc? Also, do you need any special permission to fly so close etc? TIA

    DazzaB from DownUnder

Hi everyone, just a quick intro. I lived in California (primarily) until I moved to Australia in 1988. I'm an ex commercial photographer (Brooks Institute grad if that means anything to people here) so I have a very strong interest in aerial photography. I just left my paid job as a Unix Sys...

ArduPilot APM 2.5 FC on Droidworx

Has anyone here tried flying a Droidworx with the ArduPilot APM 2.5 or PX4 flight controller? I'm about to move up to a Droidworx from 3D Robotics gear for use in aerial video. I think the ArduPilot project has a lot going for it and that it won't be long before it surpasses commercial...
