    Wtb: F550

F550 wanted. ARF or RTF are both fine. Aerialmediapros.com heavy lift kit also desired. Thank you for looking.

    Can this really be true?

RTF is not my first choice. I would like to save money and I'd like to understand how it all comes together.

    Can this really be true?

Andrew and Tstrike, thank you. I am definitely going to accept Bart's offer. I'd be crazy not to. Hopefully, my own camera experience will be useful to him so he also gets something out it. :) I have never asserted that there is an out of the box solution or that it won't take time, money...

    Can this really be true?

Thank you for that. As a camera operator, I can say that for me, at least, you're rolling a lot and hope and only a little is usable (for various reasons depending on the genre). Some people, including the dealer I spoke to, have not offered a nuanced opinion like yours. They say no flyer of...

Tstrike you're in the minority here. Consensus is that no stable footage is possible with a rig costing less than $8K.

    Can this really be true?

Here's what I don't understand, then. If it requires $8K to get stable footage, is everything below $8K just for flying/hobby fun? I'm not criticizing fun. I like fun. But if I'm just going to have fun I can get a Phantom for $679. If a $679 Phantom and a $6500 something-else produce the...

    Can this really be true?

I confess I don't understand the question but suspect it takes us off topic. I do not own an Epic and they do not cost $50K. Even if I did, the ownership of a particular camera does not, unfortunately, give one knowledge of multirotors. I wish it did! :) If you have further off-topic...

    Can this really be true?

Thanks for all the advice. At this point, it's not so much my inexperience in flying that is my problem, it's my inexperience in choosing a multi. Moreover, I was more than surprised to learn that it's impossible to get stable footage for less than $8K. I feel like I've seen it. I wonder if...

    Can this really be true?

Good points, but disappointing for me. I was hoping $6K would buy me something that looked good and that I could use to make money while saving for something better. What would you consider a good first, cheap multi, as you suggested earlier?

    Can this really be true?

Ferdinand, thank you. If it's the truth, then not a single user here in these forums with a multi-rotor costing less than $8K is producing professional-looking footage. What do you consider small and cheap? Even an F330 will cost me $1000 all in.

PM sent (sorry if I accidentally sent it twice!).

    Can this really be true?

Bartman, this would be my first one. I'm an NYC based camera operator and I think I've caught the bug. Some of my clients would be happy with GoPro footage but I need to aim higher than that for other clients and myself. Moreover, if possible, I would prefer not to buy something that I'll...

    Can this really be true?

I have just called a major multi-rotor dealer (whom I will not name but whose banner ad may even appear above as you read this) who has said that in order to properly fly something as small as a GH2, one must spend at least $8K. He said no stable, professional-looking footage is possible with a...

    Are DJI Prices Universal?

I think I may be off DJI now in any case. I've just had a major DJI dealer basically refuse to sell me an S800, saying they're terrible and won't properly fly a GH2. He said it's impossible to stably fly a GH2 with any bird costing less than $8K, which might leave me out of the game altogether.

    Are DJI Prices Universal?

Not certain yet, but I may have settled on the S800. Are prices DJI regulated? Some websites appear to have identical prices.

And you're telling me nice work?! You're out of my pay grade. Although, to my credit, I was once able to bring home a new television and bong in the same day. Both, sadly, are gone now.

Well it all works out then. If you've got kids around it's probably best if you get rid of that bomb anyway. I used to do sound work and I'm selling some of my (non-income-generating) gear to buy a bird so my wife doesn't get to say anything.

That's great news. It makes me feel better about moving up quicker. My first big bird will definitely have Wookong.

I'm afraid someone with more experience with these small quads will have to answer that question. My only quad experience is with the MQX. I would suspect, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, is that the point is learning the controls and that one should avoid quads like the Parrot...

Tiki: I've just read this entire thread. I'm more or less in the same boat as you, or I was a week ago and I'm still very new. I'm a film/tv camera operator seeking a new platform. You may have already done this, but define as much as possible now what you want to shoot and then determine...
