Pixhawk the new flight controller from 3DR

This overshoot happens mainly in ACRO mode (rate). It does happen a bit less in stabilize. Its only if i'm being moderate on the sticks. Small fine movements are ok. The large octo I'm flying it on has 390kv motors, 15x4 props and 6S. The ESC's are Castle Talon 35's. Their multi rotor firmware I...

Pixhawk the new flight controller from 3DR

I do recall the trainer mode setting. I had the same issue at first. The ship would always want to go level even in rate mode but I found the setting and changed it to 0. I can get it to hold its angle just as the Hoverfly does. Its pretty easy to achieve without payload (Even on a large octo)...

Pixhawk the new flight controller from 3DR

I can say with certainty that the Hoverfly is still the smoothest. The APM doesn't hold angles very well when there is a large camera underneath. Trying to dampen out all the unwanted motion it makes is very difficult with or without a camera gimbal. But its not that bad. It still flies very...

Pixhawk the new flight controller from 3DR

The pixhawk instructions are written into the instructions along with the APM and PX4 controller. Go to www.copter.ardupilot.com The mission planner software is how you do your initial setup. It has everything you need in one place. It gives instructions for setting up all of 3DRobotics flight...

Pixhawk the new flight controller from 3DR

I have a Pixhawk on order and I did get the same notification about the SD card. Currently i'm using the APM flight controller. It has all the same settings as the Pixhawk and uses the same mission planner software but the Pixhawk should be a faster controller. My APM controller is fully...

Pixhawk the new flight controller from 3DR

I myself have been a long time Hoverfly user and I still am. But of course with Hoverfly's lack of development of advanced features I decided to try the APM. It is a steep learning curve but if you already have experience in multi rotors I guess it could be steeper. I tested it out on a simple...

Hoverfly Tube size for Heavy Lift Hexa

I have two heavy lift octos. One is 22mm and the other is 25mm. 21.5 mm i'm not familiar with but it should work just fine. I've been lifting 10+ pounds with my 22 mm frame. But I found that its nice to have everything the same size. This way if something needs to be replaced I have only one...

Hoverfly Tube size for Heavy Lift Hexa

25mm tubing. Its pretty standard for heavy lift multicopters.

    Hoverfly Something Big?

They're just keeping things quiet to get a leg up on the competition. This market is moving so quickly they can't afford to post any information about what their doing. They need something that will keep them competing for some time. I hope so anyway!

Hoverfly Hoverfly GPS saved my ship! I nearly had a Heart Attack! 2013 Demo Reel.

Thats what I told my cameraman but NOOO he just wanted to film some boring runners and bicyclists.

Hoverfly Hoverfly GPS saved my ship! I nearly had a Heart Attack! 2013 Demo Reel.

Not a silly question at all. If the ship wants to go somewhere else while the PH or RTH is ON and good GPS signal, its usually due to bad trim settings for the auto-leveling (AL). When the GPS functions are activated the Auto-Leveling feature is activated as well. If the AL is not trimmed...

Hoverfly Hoverfly GPS saved my ship! I nearly had a Heart Attack! 2013 Demo Reel.

Yes you should be able to fly even if you haven't done any calibrations but not recommended. The purple LED will be flashing for a number of reasons. 1. The ship type isn't selected (it doesn't know what configuration your flying). 2 The Receiver isn't connected to the HFP properly. 3. The USB...

Hoverfly Hoverfly GPS saved my ship! I nearly had a Heart Attack! 2013 Demo Reel.

The GPS board doesn't need to be temperature calibrated. The temperature calibration is for the Gyros on the main board. As the gyros heat up they begin to drift. The temperature calibration records this change and makes the necessary corrections. It doesn't matter if the GPS board is attached...

Hoverfly Hoverfly GPS saved my ship! I nearly had a Heart Attack! 2013 Demo Reel.

All you need is the $15 magnetometer from Spark Fun and 2 10K resistors (Radio Shack). Then maybe a little soldering.

Hoverfly Hoverfly GPS saved my ship! I nearly had a Heart Attack! 2013 Demo Reel.

The error i'm speaking of is the Magnetometer not facing the front of the ship perfectly. For whatever that reason may be (chip installation or FC installation) the magnetometer tells the ship what direction to fly. If the front of the ship doesn't match (even by a couple degrees) it will arc...

Hoverfly Hoverfly GPS saved my ship! I nearly had a Heart Attack! 2013 Demo Reel.

I agree. It sometimes returns to home in an arc if there is wind. Getting itself back to the home position is sometimes very slow once its within 30-40'. It inches its way back from there for me usually. The earlier versions of the firmware stopped to abruptly causing over shoot. Now its the...

You can get installation inaccuracy. I've had it before. If you drill your own holes to mount the FC this could happen. Nothing is perfect.

Hoverfly Hoverfly GPS saved my ship! I nearly had a Heart Attack! 2013 Demo Reel.

Yes I used the axis external 3 magnetometer from Sparkfun. The internal magnetometer is soldered directly on the Hoverfly GPS board. Because of this it is subject to poor installation positioning and interference. DJI and Zero UAV have their Magnetometer and GPS antenna located high up and away...

Hoverfly Hoverfly GPS saved my ship! I nearly had a Heart Attack! 2013 Demo Reel.

GPS Performance Thanks! I should give that a try. I've never used the Orientation Lock because I was afraid I might get disoriented forgetting thats its ON. When I don't have the camera rig attached (fun flying) I do land the ship with PH or RTH ON. I even take off again with it ON. Earlier in...
