Has anyone seen the new gimbal Hoverfly announced at NAB in Vegas last week? Called the OBSIDIAN. It looks like its Red Epic camera ready for those of us flying cameras of similar size and weight. No price as far as I can see. But if its under 5K it could be a great contender.
SMP,
Its easier than it sounds. The new retracts mount to the main frame using an adaptor plate that acts as a small spacer creating room for wires, etc and keeping them isolated from the gimbal quick release. The new quick release iso for the gimbal mounts directly to the main frame...
Keep the beeping. Most times I land the Octo and do an automatic disarm (left/right) without a thought, wipe my brow for having flown a camera successfully that cost more than most cars, then proceed to be distracted by something that is client related, then only to realize its time to load new...
The day I first flew my Octo heavy lifter, the winds were gusting 25+ mph. It handled it like a champ. My smaller quad would have been all over the place. It seems like everytime I fly its very windy. Not sure I know howto fly on a calm day! If you have good isolation and a gimbal that's set up...
That's encouraging news. My concerns were would I need to drill. And how hard would it be to go from a 2axs gimbal to a 3/360 gimbal. As much as we hate to admit it, we all have our "hard" landings, and I also was concerned about the horizontal legs coming off if that happened. Thanks for the...
Al from Hoverfly mentioned on another thread that a GPS update will be released soon. Next week or so. Yea! And he also eluded to the fact that there might be some new products as well! Smaller and enclosed gimbal? Maybe?
What are my options for upgrading the ver1 frame to all the new goodies. Quick release with the new isolation, etc. Might have an opportunity to get one. Any help and advice from all would be welcome. Thx.
Is your SJ8 in the x or + configuration. Mine is x and as such there is no "center" boom to mount a cam. So I just put it on the top of the "crash cage". Plenty wide to judge the surroundings. You would probably get a lot of vibration with a post of any length.

Does the same apply even if you are using larger/ higher voltage/ Amp batts like a 5-6 cell with 10,000+ mA and a C rating of 100+? The sudden surge from a large fresh lipo to a discharged lipo has kept me from trying the "always on" method of battery replacement.
I would be concerned about...
Started with thumbs because thats how all the old timers did it, (I was 22 at the time so anyone older than me or with more experience than me was an old timer). Then one day many years later, I saw a guy flying Pinch Style! It was for sure an Ah-Ha moment. Been flying Pinch Style ever since and...
Should there be any concern about having 2 discharged lipo batts (in this case parallel), then removing one and introducing a fully charged batt while the other discharged batt is still connected?
