discovered a design flaw in my scratch built quadcopter

Nice setup you have there. Get some high quality props (ex. T-Motor) and there won't be nearly as much flex. I have a box full of cheap CF props. Nevermore. You could even try some Xoars, then no flex at all.

    Cheerson CX-35 Phantom

I hope that unit is better than the JXD 509G, my first toy grade.

I wouldn't mind trying 2 pairs. PM me.

Did You Register Your Drone Yesterday?

Not registered and will wait until John Taylor's lawsuit is settled.

4 scales for accurate balancing of a Quad

It works for a Y configuration as it has 3 points, but not for a quad because the weight cannot be measured accurately due to there being 4 points of contact. The planes of both the scales and the 4 points on the quadcopter would necessarily need to be "perfect". That said, scales are exactly...

FAA Announces Small UAS Registration Rule

FAA is being sued, but Big Drone and AMA is not supporting him. http://diydrones.com/profiles/blogs/faa-sued-in-federal-court-by-model-aircraft-hobbyist#comments Those interested can support John Taylor here: http://fund.dcdrone.org/

    carbon propeller 14x4.8

Are they better quality than say Gemfan, which flex and require much balancing? Is that $20/pair? The problem I have with most T-Motor clone props is they are limited to about 400-500g of thrust because of being weak. Above that they cause problems. Plus the trailing edge is somewhat thicker. I...

FAA Announces Small UAS Registration Rule

Is anyone familiar with what's going on at DJI? http://www.dji.com/mobile/flysafe/geo-system/details#intro-geo Discussion here: http://forum.dji.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=38482&fromuid=51556 I have not registered and don't plan on it unless Congress reigns in FAA and forces them to do...

KDE Direct XF UAS ESC and Flight Controller Compatibility List

Arytron and KDE, Thanks for your posts. I'm convinced the issues I was having is related to a conflict between the self calibration routine of the KDE ESC's and Arducopter. This appears to be verified by KDE above. I still have the 35A ESC's and plan to try them again on another build, but...

KDE Direct XF UAS ESC and Flight Controller Compatibility List

This is a brand new FC, motors and ESC's. I finally out of necessity to keep my sanity, replaced them with a HW Quattro which works fine. I may try KDE's again on another project.

Oh great... is this true? (registration)

Think of all the jobs saved or created by all this policing! Sorry, had to say it.

Oh great... is this true? (registration)

Note the liberal use of the word "ruling" as in "rule over". Meanwhile, cars are registered, licensed and golly gee, some drunk chick plows into a crowd, kills 4 and injures dozens. Where is the outrage! Oh the humanity! See, the government "cares". As a country dweller, I'm so pleased my...

who's into some heavy aerial mapping?

A friend of the family runs a 7000 acre farm. He hired someone to survey his fields. I don't know what exactly was done, but he said it saved him a lot of time and grunt work. He has no interest in learning to fly.

KDE Direct XF UAS ESC and Flight Controller Compatibility List

Nope, things are still quirky. I can't quite pin it down, but there seems to be issues with how the ESC's calibrate and react to the settings in the parameters above. Yesterday one motor refused to spin throughout the entire throttle range. I had to set those parameters both to 0. It's not...

KDE Direct XF UAS ESC and Flight Controller Compatibility List

I'm happy to report the KDE 35A ESC's are working fine so far. In addition to what Patrick from KDE posted, I set THR_MIN to 0 and set MOT_SPIN_ARMED to 130.
