Hello!

I maiden today with a DJI F450. I have been into RC many years now but I never tried a quad before.
What a joy!

Made a video and more to come from Norway :)

I also installed lights on my rig. Check it out

Congratulations on your first Quad flight. Now you really understand why we love it sooooo much!

One word of advice though, get rid of the 10 inches DJI props and fly other props like APC Electric 10 X 4.7 (cheap, good and safe) or Graupner 10 X 5 (expensive, excellent and safe). The Dji props tend to break in the air and caused expensive damages.... Happened to me twice. I love DJI products and fly them but I do not trust their props.

Welcome aboard this great forum. A lot of expertise here, in several discipline of this exciting hobby!

I think those DJI props are the same as the Xaircraft props, which were renowed for breaking in flight, I really thought they had got past that. but I had one go today. hope it was a one off.

Nice video RCNorge, you Noggies really know how to do things right!!

Why take a chance mate? I am not convinced at all that this problem is solved. What I know for sure is I never had another prop breaking in flight since I fly both the F450 and F550 with Graupner. Especially with the F550, the combinaison of camera, gimball, video downlink and other telemetry units make a crash very expensive and potentially dangerous. I will not put $2000.00 at risk for the price of a prop. For me, this peace of mind is important. All I have to do now is stay away from the trees Ha! Ha!

I know what your saying Roger, trouble is I've got 8 XAircraft motors on this thing which obviously have the flat bits on the shaft, so dont know what else to use without changing out 8 perfectly good motors.

Thank you buddy. Now I wonder why I did not start with this long time ago! I havent had so much fun with RC for a long time. Thank you for nice tips, I will look for better props.
I just installed some lights on my rig, check it out (Video in first post)

I know what your saying Roger, trouble is I've got 8 XAircraft motors on this thing which obviously have the flat bits on the shaft, so dont know what else to use without changing out 8 perfectly good motors.

As I see it, the actual prop retention and locking principle is based on prop compression to the motor base plate and not with the flat key on the shaft. If it was the case, how to explain all the other and more powerful motors featuring no flat portion on the motor shaft.

Also, the electronics of all Master Controller (MC) that I know feature a so called ''Soft Start'' which prevents any abrupt loads on initial start up that would affect the solidity of the prop spinning off the shaft. Having said this, nothing that I can see prevent you from getting 8 new APC props, at 2 - 3 bucks each, using the prop hole adaptor (included) if necessary and applying the same torque as usual to securely compress the washer onto the prop!

Here you go, flying safe with peace of mind and for really cheap! (compare to the other alternative)...

Now, I do not fly XAircraft MR nor do I use XAircraft motors but looking carefully at it the standard DJI motor (2212, 920 KV) I noticed it has a FLAT on the shaft TOO! As hundreds of people fly these motors with APC and Graupner props without problem (including myself), why not using those props on you motors?!

What brand and size of helicopter did the landing skids that you used come from? They look great. Did the holes on the gear match the holes for the bolts in the lower frame of the quad or did you have to drill new holes? I would like to install skids like that on y F.450. Thanks
