First (GoPro) FPV Setup not working! Black & White and distorted! Please Help!

Hi people, so Santa brought me some fpv gear for my multirotor, and i'm having real problems setting it up. I've got:

- A 1000mw TX51W 5.8ghz transmitter (with 2s 800mah LiPo)
- An RC805 receiver (with 3s 2200mah LiPo)
- A GoPro HD Hero 2
- A 9.5" LCD Portable DVD Player with mini-jack AV input.

I managed to get all the right cables together (i hope) and set it up as it should be. However, when I powered it all up, I got a very distorted, dark, black and white image. No matter what channels I used or cables I wobbled, I only ever saw nothing, or this terrible quality picture. It's quite hard to describe and I apologise for not having immediately supplied a photo/screenshot, but the picture looks kind of like the colours have been inverted and then made black and white. It's very difficult to make anything out on screen and the signal is so unreliable it wouldn't be possible to fly with it.

At first, being a first-time FPVer, I thought that it might just be because there was very bad interference due to being inside, but it was the same out in the field. It's been really frustrating me and I'd appreciate some help....

I tested the TX/RX with my TV box, and it was transmitting beautifully to the LCD monitor. The only difference in the setup was the input source and the cable used. I have this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251051887856?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2648 cable to connect the GoPro to the transmitter, and having successfully transmitted the TV signal, I assumed that this cable must be at fault. However, having studied it, I really can't see what could be wrong with it, everything seems set up perfectly.

Occasionaly, there is a flash of colour across the LCD. Sometimes, for a couple of seconds after I change the GoPro video mode from NTSC to PAL (and back), there are colours, but they are inaccurate and weird looking (e.g. the white walls appear green).

I'm sooo confused and annoyed and I'd love some help from people more knowledgable than myself... Please help me sort this!!

where is the stuff from? is there manuals online?

What you explain the picture being like is a common "not working" look. I'd start with a multimeter with continuity testing and note both cables yellow and black show up on what place of the 4 pin connector. i've had them gopro cables with the wrong color wires but still totaly worked, just had to sort out the color coding. That'd be a good place to start.

Make sure you never run the little part, transmitter without an antenna

Okay, so i've messed about with this in every possible way and come to the conclusion that the connector from hong kong had a faulty jack or something similar. i've bought this (http://www.firstpersonview.co.uk/accessories/gopro-video-out-2.5mm-4-pole-to-tinned-wires), and it should arrive tomorrow. expensive, but i'm desperate. not a single physical shop in my area had a 2.5mm jack of any kind.
anyway, i'll solder this up to the servo connector that came with the transmitter and i'm crossing my fingers that i'll be able to fly tomorrow....

those have to be the most complicated little explanation of colors and what they are, but is kinda what i've ran into......

Wiring:
Screen - GND
Yellow - VIDEO
White - AUDIO L
Red - AUDIO R
If you have the Blue wire set the pin out is as follows:
Pin 1 (tip): Blue
Pin 2: White
Pin 3: Green
Pin 4 (closest to the black plastic): Shield
And when used with a GoPro:
Blue = R. Audio
White = L. Audio
Green = Video
Shield = Ground

When you do this, get the video signal and a ground to the video tx same and make that work. Most sound is only on ground fpv stuff, where you can hear, talk, listen, etc. Flying sound is prop and wind, like sticking your head out the window when you drive.

that servo wire that came with your tx,,,,,,, make sure you read what is video signal and what is ground and ignore any color coding....

Alright, the cable came, and I connected it up and it's working perfectly.... :)

I had a bit of a go this morning at some FPV flying. It's much harder than I expected as I find it hard to notice when I'm drifting with the wind and when I look up I've ended up on the other side of the field.... I guess it needs practise.

The setup worked OK, but the signal seemed to drop off pretty quick. I'd say that at about 70-80 metres with direct LOS I started getting interference... The weather wasn't great: rain and medium wind, but I expected more than this. I will try in a different location next time.
