very good Pete, I have just picked up a x650 airframe only , have you any thoughts on the best motors and esc's, I have 4, dt750 and 4, 30amp redbrick escs I got cheap, do you think they would do?

That will get you going. It will always come down to $$$. I have had a great run from a similar setup. Once I started carrying payload that mattered (more than a Gopro), I upgraded the motors to something a bit better.
