Courier in it for a change.

I now run a very small scooter courier company next to my art academy study to make some money to live from/off, and it works out kinda well. But I'd like to change every once a while and since my last year of study is coming up, I'm more and more interested in maybe swapping out the scooter for a multi. That'd be nice and possibly a lot more creative. But then again riding a scooter with documents and blood samples can be creative as well. I'd like to watch nature documentaries and red bull youtube videos, so that sort of originates things. Some years ago I applied for a study at a commercial airline, and some years before that as a fighter pilot, but it turned out differently, still playing 'round and well, i'm enjoying it.

Anyways, that's not really the thing for this forum, well i'm not a typical forum guy, i'm more of a google guy. Search-suggestions and how-to-get-a-broken-jack-out-the-3,5mm-in (aha hot needle, tnx mate), you guys want some coffee.

Enough of that, if i have any questions i will look out on the forum, since i reckoned by now, this is a better one I stumbled upon earlier.

Cheers.

but it's true... check out: scootkoerier.be that's my courier business.
and well i'm doing video edit's, some max msp, after-effects, that also helps a bit to step it up.

Ah I found it.

Nice remark, which just shows the sheer size of it all...

The youtube link starts at 1.10 since I was there last year when I walked from a to b (killing spare time, when doing some work at A. I'm not 100% sure though) .

must be regional, hes in germany i think, isn't it? not far from ya.....

are you in a pretty big business area? when i think of courier on bikes, i think of San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles where traffic is locked up and a bike is faster than a car

I was just replying to you.

Well I moved here 2 years ago, from rotterdam (NL) which is a little bigger, but it's okay. By scooter, since i take the villages around it as well.

I see you're from SD, what's walters? Is it a nice city, guess that's a lot more metropole like. I'm only familiar with Golden State Warriors, that's close. And well Google of course, as I mentioned before, but that's all San Francisco, not Diego. Have never been in the states, like to go there.
Lakers is a lot closer, Howard, Nash Territory.

BTW this is multirotor offtopic, but I guess that's okay in the new member area.

aha, found it. http://www.trulia.com/property/3088433163--Walters-Cp-Palo-Verde-CA-92266

It is called Walters Camp, it's a small fishing village along the lower Colorado river just below the Grand Canyon and 30 miles from the Mexican border. If you looked at a map and follow the Sea of Cortez up between mainland mexico and baja, the colorado river is the water dumping into that sea, north of that is San Luis mexico, then Yuma Arizona then Walters camp. The whole area is Cowboys and Indians kinda history. Wyatt Erp, names like that. It was also and still is a very active gold mining area. There are mines everywhere, donkeys left behind from miners that past along, etc. i got alot of videos, but if you go through and look for american holidays like easter, memorial day, labor day, it is alot of video of those areas via FPV

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ADGQ0L80as

the first segment that flies down past all the houses is the entire population of Walters Camp. All they do is drink alcohol, party, and party, then they sleep a little and do it again. I have to babbies so got away from drinking so flying was my next choice of entertainment. It's all good

Your out there somewhere by trappy from fpvlab. Team Black Sheep http://www.team-blacksheep.com/

picacho

So if i'm right that's in between imperial and cibola, and the view over the houses is at Old River Road from North to South (in the first shot).
Is this also where the baja 1000/500 races take place.

That seriously is a spacious and nice area you live in. I'd say you don't suffer from harsh winters out there. Last February we had -15 degrees (that is Celcius), which really sucked, especially on the scooter.
But you can't really compare Ghent with SD. After whatching the youtube video you posted, I was talking to my girlfriend yesterday about how great it'd be with so much space around and that that is actually kinda hard to imagine. Then we're talking about how maybe also a look at our place from someone not used to it, could be as overwhelming.

So... I looked up a view of Ghent, and was wondering what you'd think about that.

Bhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPdJ-FWFF5Aut to honest, that's a typical tourist view (with horrible music) of only the city centre. Well, I only live here in Belgium for 2 years now, so I can still somewhat enjoy it as a tourist. That's a good thing in a way. I also live in Amsterdam for a while and the centre over there is comparable to here, but a lot bigger. But seriously one look at a map of Holland or Belgium and you'd see we're almost out of nature. Lots of pigeons though.

Nice TBS video of Thailand. Did the parapenter die, or was it just the plane (temporarily)? Nice poster frame. I'll subscribe to your TBS channel.

it is called walters camp road straight across from cibola lake and cibola federal wildlife refuge. baja starts in san felipe if i remember right, that's like 30-40 miles south of san diego through tijuana. same general desert on a map, it's the hot tan sandy looking part. here is the satelite log of where i flew the plane, opens in google earth and is safe. just made it www.rchelicollective.com/zen/albums/kloner/labor day track.zip shows my path and the area

one of the most noteable places nearby is called Glamis. San Diego has 9 million people, Los Angeles has just over 20 million people, Glamis and the River are the winter/summer spots all those people go to relax and have a good time. When were all heading into the heat, all the people from AZ are heading to our beaches. I've heard that Glamis has had a million people at it on a holiday before, i believe it, it's RV and diesel pushers as far as the eye can see.
http://www.glamisdunes.com/index.php
my next mission

i've never seem much below what you'd call 18-20c during the day

Man, is that place old or what. That's one thing about the US and in particular the west coast is we just haven't been here long. there is very little from the 1800's and most stuff was post 1900 around here. think the indians still had it back then. When i see them old stone building like that it looks very european. at my house i live along the san diego river. theres no massive granite statues but we got these indian things where they used rocks to grind seed to eat. the area is full f oak trees so we assume they were grinding it's seed.

this is the oldest thing we got in the area, and i think az was part of the union before california. This is Yuyma AZ, 30 miles south of where all those flights took place
http://azstateparks.com/Parks/YUTE/index.html

Team Black Sheep are from austria..... over there by you somewhere. they are into FPV and are the ones that make the quad i fly. i'm not them,,, just a fan

The United states still has a grip of open space, it's just where it's possible to sustain life and enjoy it is getting eaten up. if you goto La Jolla CA and try to get land, it's most likely already all taken up and worth a premium, but overlooks the pacific ocean from a massive cliff. not a bad deal. Go look out there in the desert and they'll give you land for free, we call it homesteading

It's really funny how educational this talk is. I'd never heard of RVs and diesel pushers, I'd speak of campers, we use that it dutch as well. Flying over google maps/earth to find out how it all runs in your area. 'Bout sand people crawling dusty dunes, and a single 'homesteader' trying to protect the yellow flower.

Looks kinda nice. You'd go to the dunes to ride or to fly?

Hey, that session log file you sent, was that all in one continues flight, since 14,1 miles is a nice distance . That's your tbs flying with or without the gimble, and you flew it remotely via video transmission i guess since it's a little too spread to fly by sight i'd say?

alot of what goes to glamis these days is toterhomes like these, made by Renegade for the most part.

toter_home.jpg

pushers are more for old people that don't like getting dirty, we call them class A motor homes like this
Class-a-motorhomes.jpg

especially guys outta LA run both them types of rigs. San Diego's not quite as rich, but we got em too. It goes from a few hundred thousand motorhomes to nothing but sand, lizards and wind in one weekend. Desert season ends memorial day weekend but is the begining of river season, then labor day closes out the river and the desert livens up.

I grew up riding the dunes, i'm over it. these days i sit my fat butt in a chair and fly. 12 years ago i got ran over on a Suzuki GSXR and i'm pretty much dissabled for life. fused ankle and arthritis everywhere. Looking forward to scrapin those dunes. There massive and impressive

yea, that was one flight. this one, was 3300 mah, it carries 6 that i can use about 4800 worth so it had quite a bit left in the tank. next trip out i'll go for a distance run and see how far i can get away. Return to home is pretty much setup now that it flies level.

Well i guess a zephyr uses a let less energy then the quad. But I didn't quite get it completely

You said:

are you saying that, it carries 6, 3300 battery pack on a single flight (19800 mah). And what do you mean with the 4800, or am i completely off. I think it's the somewhat specialised English where I fall little short.

the flight used 3300 mah. the plane holds 6000 mah in 2 packs of 3000 mah in parallel of 4s. It is able to use up to 4800 mah to keep 20% of the pack charged, best practice. i had one flight this weekend i got so locked up in tuning the thing a half hour later i had ran into 5800 mah use, it shut off and i had to dump it in the desert. Dumped 2 out there this weekend and got em both back

Ah, now it's clear.

Tracking a plane which doesn't leave tracks is hard I'd say, on top of that. Let's drop it in the dessert, a lot more adventurous ;)

That's just a rule of thumb to save your plane, the 20%, or does that depend on set-up as well?

Another technical question, if it's not to boring, well, i guess not, since your very active out here, and then again it's a multi rotor forum.
Could you step by step explain what every thing does in your setup:

-TBS Discovery, core, 2810 Suppo 1000kv, 30 amp opto dji,
naza gps, lawmate 2.4 1000mw, EzUHF, Pixim 690 cam, hero2, CP antennas
Immersion 2.4 v2 duo, helicals, crosshairs, 7"&16" monitor

you take a directional antenna and monitor, point it around and you'll get static where it isn't, a picture where it is. when you get close, in the low voltage cutoff plane was beeping like crazy indicating it was in shutdown so that was really easy. my other one hung from a tree next to the road not 5 feet away

http://rchelicollective.com/zen/cache/kloner/multifun/051 (768x1024)_795.jpg

-TBS Discovery- team blackseep hybrid fpv frame that uses the dji flamewheel arms and motor/esc combos. pretty much can buy a f450 arf, buy the frame and you can sell the frame plates that came in your f450 kit, everything else in the kit gets used like it was a flamewheel, looks like my avatar, that's a shaddow from it

core- is a dual power supply that has a built in osd or on screen display. if you look at my movie channel, it has several that say live feed, they have all kinds of data like the plane video above. That is osd, the cores version is stripped down to mah, amps, volts and rssi or rc signal strength. it powers the camera and video transmitter with clean filtered power. makes less interference. my quads have it, my zephyr doesn't and the quads clean strong signal i think is better than zII's

2810 Suppo 1000kv- 1000 rpm per volt oversized 350 watt motors. they like 8" props, 9" work but make too much power pushed, but like anyhting , you can back off wide open and get by.

30 amp opto dji- these are the electronic speed controllers. it is what throttles and powers the motors

naza gps- naza gps if my autopilot flight controller. has gps flight that makes it fly straight lines no matter the wind, has anon gps self leveling flight mode and has a manual flight mode that doesn't self level. it has return to home in case of signal loss.

lawmate 2.4 1000mw- is the video transmitter that send my camera signal to my monitor

EzUHF- is the rc control part that i use instead of 2.4 radios like most people. it has massive range. records for lrs radio systems are like 100 miles, but 10-15 miles is easily obtainable

Pixim 690 cam- is a bord camera, think camera with no case, light weight. the pixim part is instead of cmos or ccd provessor, it is pixim, searh the web, popular high resolution with wdr to make dark and light mix better for a clearer picture. 690 lines,,,,, pretty clear picture, much better than a hero live output

hero2- gopro to capture the flight in hd

CP antennas
. These are known as circular polarized antennas. when yu move the craft around like mr's do tilting alot, it makes it never loose signal, but doesn't work as high up or as far away as a regular rubber antenna. They look like weird little globes out of wire, the patch antennas are a trip. They were brought to the hobby by a cat that goes by IBCRAZY

Immersion 2.4 v2 duo- video receiver, captures the video signal and hooks to the monitor to display the transmitted signal

helicals, crosshairs- types of CP antennas

7"&16" monitor
- what i fly looking out the front of my birds through
