Taking hexcopter on a commercial flight

What have been people's experience of taking a decent sized multirotor (e.g. a hex with 12" props") on a commercial airline flight? I know the rules regarding Lipos, but the centre of a hexa with arms/motors/props detached looks a bit sinister. I am happy to put it in checked baggage suitably packaged. I'd be less keen to take it as hand luggage because of the size and weight (on top of carrying the lipos), though at least then one has an opportunity to explain what it is.

Just took a Cinestar 6 on an international flight a little while ago, no problems at all. Didn't even question the LiPo's. I had most of the stuff in check baggage though so i would recommend that.

Just check your airlines policy on Lipo's.

The CAA also has some requirements if you are flying out of a CAA controlled airport.

I had no mither taking 12 x 2200 mah batteries but the CAA have a limit on the Lithium content.. do a search I binned the info when I came home from Finland
