Wookong for dummies

Looking for some basics here:
Could someone explain the WKM's 3 modes to me in simple terms please. I can only use the gaui 344 controller as a reference.
  • Manual, would this be like 'cruise' on the Gaui 344 controller ie similar to normal heli?
  • The 'Atti' mode I presume means attitude stabilization, would this be self levelling mode like 'hover' on the 344? It states that it controls altitude. Is this a typo or does Atti in fact put into baro alt hold? If so, what if I want attitude stabilization but no alt hold?
  • GPS mode....I understand this for position hold, does it use GPS for Alt hold also or is it barometrically controlled, or both.
Thanks

Steve in Manual mode you are using gyros only. In ATTI mode you add the accelerometers for self leveling and yes you will have vario altitude hold. Try it you will like it. It just means that you can use the TH to set the altitude and it will hold at what ever altitude you set the stick at. I believe that they use an algorithm that uses data from both Baro and GPS for altitude hold.

Manual: Flies like a pig! You have to stabilise the heli yourself...I have disabled mine!

Atti: Flies beautifully. Self stabilises and holds altitude when you let the gas stick go. Fly like normal.

GPS: Sticks in the sky like chewing gum on your shoe. You can adjust altitude while in GPS mode and you can also move around like atti mode, except when you let the sticks go, it "parks" again and hovers.

Failsafe: Comes back home lovely and smoothly, and it auto lands.

Cheers,

Gunter.

Gunter I have to disagree with you.. Manual mode doesn't fly like a pig I'd say it flies more like a Pissed off Dragon Fly. Funny thing is I thought that was the mode i needed to start flying in until you told me other wise :tennis:

So in Atti mode does it not always want to fight your commands and self level? I have found this with the Gaui 344 controller on my 330xs, the only filming I have done has been in 'hover' mode which is self levelling, I suppose akin to the atti mode without alt hold. I get a lot of wobbes as I instinctively want to centre the cyclic stick after a directional command like with a heli, and then it goes straight back to level, as indeed it should. Ive been practicing some fpv in 'cruise' mode and its much smoother so looking forward to trying some filming in this mode. So in a nutshell....in Atti do you need to keep commands applied for directional inputs? my guess is yes. and I figure in manual mode, it will fly more like a single rotor heli, ie if you apply, say a fwd command the craft will continue to go fwd until you cancel it with an aft command and then level off

Yes if you are a single rotor heli pilot you will find the manual mode is like flying a single rotor heli. Sometimes I actually enjoy tearing around the sky using Manual Mode.

Bowley, if you push the heli forward in atti mode, then let the sticks go, it will carry on drifting in that direction. If you do the same thing in GPS mode, it will stop as soon as you let the sticks go and stay in the same place.
