V2 Immersion 5.8gHz 600mw

I just received the new V2 vTx's. My last one died after a crash. The new vTx's are somewhat smaller than the originals. I will try one this weekend.\

After 2 rounds of fpv gear that barely cleared 200' without failing...I have decided to buy this as well for my second person operator setup. Hopefully I can get maybe 300' ! I'm not even gonna bother buying the clover leafs antennas this time. Nor did I buy the diversity board. I am going plain jane and pray for a solid link at the short distances I need it for.

I got some great video from my original Immersion. I crashed and F'd up the vTx antenna connection to the board. I replaced the board with a Stinger 5.8 500mW. I was not as impressed with the Stinger performance compared to the Immersion at three times the cost. I am getting over 600' with the clover leaf antennas that I have along with a diversity antenna. I also use the EagleEyes tracking. I will say that the clover leaf antennas are so efficient that the tracking unit barely moves.

this tx with cloverleafs does 2 miles...... if your not getting that, you ran the tx without an antenna or your setup isn't right. These airwave setups take most the work out of it, switching regulator, etc.

it is kind of important to run cloverleafs with 5.8 to get much reception. Pretty easy to make yourself with a few connectors, couple feet of rg316 and a small spool of mig wire.

I keep seeing some people make that claim, but I've never came anywhere even close to that. 300 meters max is all i've ever got. I've had 4 of these now. Tried them with all kinds of antenna. Still no where close to those claims. At this point, i'm starting to wonder if it's not my location in the country or something. I always notice that people that claim 2 mile range are out in the middle of no where. I'm right between Baltimore and DC.

kloner, the problem with hooking up the vtx without an antenna.. does that also apply to the rx? Just wondering if that could be lending into my problem. I'm seriously stumped about why I get SUCH bad reception that is no where close to the claims of the maker.

You should never power a Tx or Rx without an antenna. I can damage the components.

I know for sure that my tx has never been powered up without an antenna, but I'm suspect of both of my rx's. One is built into a set of FatShark goggles and the other is a standalone. I really don't want to buy another one though just to test that theory. Is there another way to figure it out?

I'm not sure, but that can't be good. Setup is everything. every little thing that's right gets you a little further and a little further. i had a mess last weekend, got down the the river and was having uhf rc problems and video problems. Things like broken solder joint on my cannon, one of my uhf antennas for rc was shorting, the dragon link and the spektrum gear fighting each other. When everything comes together, using that cannon which is a 12 turn axial helical, it never even gets a blink at the river for 4000 feet i got away. my skew planer on just a set of fat sharks gets 2000 feet then gets a little of this, then clear then little of that, but i stay so low it's no wonder. When i rise up it gets totaly clearer. When i try this same stuff here in San Diego, it's a mess. I'm 20 minutes inland from downtown including NAS north island, 10 miles from our major industry and mcas miramar so i don't have much wonder about why. You should make an effort and try it out of town to see if it clears up or if theres just too much interference. i know even my rig is horrible without an antenna extension holding the bluebeam up over the props

this one was working perfect, 6.4" up from the bottom plate

at one point i had my 5.8 vtx rubber banded to the back of the cam trying different heights

if you have an audio on your osd you can turn on and listen too is alot of info on how the connection is doing. if you hear motor whine, you got interferrence, etc. i use that announce every 30second deal on one parameter just to hear how the audio is doing
