Zenmuse repair

Well, 20 flights in and I had a motor fail on the s800. I flipped to Home lock mode thinking that it should just spin around and I could maintain reasonable control but not it just spun like crazy and hit the ground at a reasonable rate. All I can say is thats the last time I fly a hex with anything important under it.

I couldn't really give a crap about the broken s800, I was fed up with it's sloppy arms and vibration issues, but I was just hoping that the zenmuse would still be ok, it's not :(

On power up it just spins and shakes randomly. My guess is that the rotory encoders are damaged, as the motors appear ok.

Question is, what do I do, where do I send it to be repaired? I bought it from Geoff at quadcopters.co.uk (a personal sale)

Contary to other posts recently about there being utterley zero repair or support for zenmuse, I have found DJI to be very reasonable. I emailed Terry at DJI HQ and he has been very good in both response time and suggestions. I am involved in trying to get a faulty z15G version fixed, and all is going well. I suggest emailing Terry at DJI directly. I honestly think DJI are trying hard on the customer services front. still not too pleased about the 1250 $ I need to spend on 5 x new WKM IMU's , but thats another story:(

Yes thats right on. You cant get spares or service. The only people who could repair it are the factory. Try talking to Abby Lui. its like talking to the wall. She has done more harm to that company than anybody. Try getting a dealer to send it back as this is your only hope.
When I approached them to obtain details of the correct procedure for returning the item all I got was why don't you become a dealer.
Thats just great, invest your cash in some stock that you will soon not be able to give away and take all of the flack on their behalf.
What is the point of having a European HQ when it has an empty office devoid of any form of service.

Oh I get it, It's only one way traffic. sales without after service.

Hi Guys

Just to put the facts straight, as some people just like to guess!!!

There will be an official announcement in due course when we have everything inplace, however, here are a few details:

We are in the process of setting up a European office which will also includesupport, based in Germany. We started with the new office four weeks ago andhave been busy setting up the business. As you can see from the photos, this isour new reception area, not exactly an empty office!

We estimate to be operational within the next 6-8 weeks.
Any issues or repairs should still go through your dealerin the first instance.
We are looking forward to having our European office upand running and to better support our valued DJI customers.

I would say people don't like to guess....they have no other choice, due to DJI's great information policy....and there is still some guess work left: what is modles going to do with his Zenmuse ? Send it to China and wait for three month or, wait 3 month until your office is ready ?

to better support our valued DJI customers
......biggest joke on earth. Just pray that your "office" is not coming too late....

You've been lucky, I'm very disappointed with DJI, my zenmuse failed after 20 flights (no crash at all). 7 weeks waiting and no news. Please give me the Terry's email, I could not get an answer from my dealer, (Robert Remund),
tks.

Well I have emailed Geoff at quadcopters.co.uk as it's my best starting point. The problem that I have is a great shoot lined up for the 20th and now no zenmuse.

I'm just so gutted, I was literally one flight away from moving all the gear over to the AD-8 as I didn't trust the s800 with all its vibrations, but I thought I would give it one more chance after some additional dampening and rebalancing of props.

Looks like waiting for one more flight was an expensive move! :(

What are the options for self repair? From what I can see its a fairly simple hardware setup consisting of motors and AMT-100 encoders. My guess is that the encoders are damaged, as the motor seem ok (they spin smoothly, no bent shafts, and they move on power up).

I doubt any of the solid state elecs are damaged as the impact was not that hard.

Would I be better to just get a couple of AMT-100v's and replacing?

Or is this a perfect opportunity for DJI Europe to show what their made of. I have had nothing but bad luck with this DJI setup, first I got one of the dodgy IMUs which has the problem with RTH mode (Geoff swapped this for me in the end), then I had a faulty 5.8hz video receiver, so I would really like to be third time lucky. I'm not asking for a replacement, I crashed, yes it was a motor failure but these things happen. I'm happy to pay for it to be repaired, but I just want this to happen quickly, efficiently and with good communication. Basic customer service.

Hi Ben , Let me see what can be done here. I will speak with DJI in the morning for you.

Thank you Geoff.

I've had a closer inspection this evening and it seem that it's the roll axis that has the problem. On power up it starts normal calibration (you think everything is ok), and the after about 5 seconds it just starts spinning faster and faster in roll.

As the Zenmuse is a modular design where all of the parts can be changed without too much hassle. Why cant anybody get the spare parts. The balancing and calibration is not rocket science.

Try un plugging the wkm GPS then imu. And power up.
You could also try disconnecting the sensor cable that's on the z15 imu, the lil box that's on the z15 front mount.

You need to try and diagnose more for what is causing the spins.

Disconnect lil things and power up and see what happens.

Yeah tried that, I also disconnected the Encoder from the Roll axis, this prevents the roll spinning, so I suspect this is where one of the problems lie (if not the only one). Those encoders are pretty delicate and i think some grit got in there.

HI there,

you have to work on your dealers.
i have sent a faulty Naza to my dealer in Spain in mid january. He wrote me that he will come back to me when there are any News.
For now, no news, and the dealer didn't answers to my 2 emails i`ve sent him since then.
Really strange, as i was a good customer i think wit 3 Nazas, 1 Wookongs from DJI?

I am very tempted to just order a new encoder from farnell and give it a bash.

Does anyone have high level schematic for zenmuse?

And/or does anyone have a zen and a logic level analyser so I can check a couple of things against mine?
