Vibrations

Installed an app called Vibrations on my iPhone and strapped the phone onto my 550. Ran the first with unbalanced 10" stock props and second with new props I balanced.

Below are screen snaps. This is about the first 30 seconds of each flight. Frankly I can't tell that much difference but I really have no idea what most of the parameters for the Vibration app are or how to set them. I think I have the sensitivity or something too high and that's why the samples don't show that much differentation.

I do know that the first run with the unbalanced props, I set the trigger on the app at 25 dB so it would start recording when the props revved up. With the balanced props, didn't trigger at 25 db and after a couple of tries, I finally had to turn the trigger down to about 7 dB to get it to work. That should tell me something.

If anybody can advise me on how to set up the parameters on the app, I might try again.

I think having the overall vibe level is not going to tell you much, especially in flight.
You should strap it to each arm and run the motors one at a time. Set the app to record at the highest frequency setting and you're basically looking for the lowest amplitude, (height) of the graphs. Change the prop rotation by 15 degrees or so and re-analyze. You can also do it with props off to find a problem motor.
That is my theory, anyway... reality might be different. I have that app but haven't done this yet, as vibes are not a problem at the moment.
