Hi all,

I'm trying to build a tricopter. The objective is long and stable flight (no acrobatics). But I'd really like an expert's opinion on this parts list to make sure I'm on the right track before I order anything.

battery Turnigy Bolt 2400mAh 3S 11.4V 65~130C High Voltage Lipoly Pack 286 g
frame Turnigy Talon Tricopter (V1.0) Carbon Fiber Frame 665 g
flight controller DJI Naza-M Lite Multi-Rotor Flight Controller GPS Combo 186 g
motors Turnigy 2217 16turn 1050kv 23A Outrunner 480 g
props HobbyKing Slowfly Propeller 10x4.5 Black (CW/CCW) (4pcs) 60 g
ubec TURNIGY 5-7.5A (8~42v) HV UBEC for Lipoly 69 g
esc Afro 30A Race Spec Mini ESC w/BEC 106 g
servo BMS-385DMAX Digital Servo (Metal Gear) 4.2kg / .15sec / 16.5g 38 g

total weight: 1880 g

I'm a bit worried that I won't have enough thrust, especially considering that if all goes well, I'll probably want to add an FPV system.

So, what do you guys think?

Thx in advance.

Hi J,

What weight will it carry?
When I looked into long flight times, I got the opinion that fewer blades = longer time, as in the full sized copters. This is why I chose tricopter, I wonder if this is why you have?
As I build them from scratch, and use do it yourself parts. I just weighed two of them and they are approx 1.1 Kg.
I tried a 1Kg piece of concrete on one and it lifted it with a struggle.
As I've been doing it for a while, my components at probably well out of date.
Sunnysky motors 2212 980.
10x4.5 props
KK2 control board
Turnigy 3 cell 3000mA batteries.
I hope this helps.
Camerart.

I chose a tricopter for no particular reason other then 'seems fun to fly'. Anyway I already ordered the exact parts that I mentioned in the list. Unfortunately I will need to order some more bits and pieces because apparently I didn't think this through well enough.
When it's finished I'll post an update. Based on your reply (thanks for that) I'd say: there's hope but if I want to a camera ... We'll see.
