Normally that would be a perfectly good transmitter to buy but with 8 channels it won't really do for FPV if you plan to fly with friends or participate in racing events.

Newer transmitters have 40 channels and are much smaller, for racing you don't need more than the 200 or 250 mw of power, in fact 25 mw is better for closed course racing as it won't interfere with others' video feeds.

Something like this should be useable for the foreseeable future

Hey @Bartman

Thanks for your response. I forgot to mention that my use case is not racing. I am building a hexa and I am going to mount a gopro as well as the camera I bought from 3DR. I also have DJI Naza-M V2. I want to be able to transmit back the video from GoPro, the FPV cam, and flight telemetrics. Will that transmitter work for that use case?

yes, in that case it will be just fine. if you won't be flying with others on a regular basis you could even consider going to a higher power transmitter for better penetration when flying in and around solid objects....something like a 500 or 600 mw transmitter.

I'm looking to just learn to fly FPV. Is this junk? http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-8G-200mW-FPV-Video-Audio-8CH-AV-Transmitter-TX-5-8GHz-RX-Receiver-Set-2KM-US/141656856836?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid=222007&algo=SIC.MBE&ao=1&asc=34227&meid=94a97a92f6d54834830d628f473f180b&pid=100005&rk=3&rkt=6&sd=301589609508
I plan on getting that HK cheapo headset. I don't have the money for anything nice at this time. Is this a waste of $? What would be a good cam to go with this (if it ends up being worth buying?)
