T-Motor Flame 80A Opto or not Opto?

Hi,

I just tried to calibrate a T-Motor Flame 80 ESC. It has no BEC and lot´s of retailers call them Opto ESC´s.
However they don´t initialize if the plus wire is disconnected. How can this be?

Usually ESC´s don't need the plus wire connected to initialize as far as I know.

Anyone an idea?

Thanks.

The Flame 80 is OPTO isolated.
The + wire powers the OPTO isolator.
You must use all three wire +/- & Signal with this ESC.

Thanks for the fast answer!

However does this not make the whole system very unsafe? If you connect every + together and the ESC´s don´t work without + to power the Opto System. What happens if one single ESC shorts. Wouldn´t that kill all esc´s simultaneously?

Is this the same with all the larger ESC´s like KDE, Tiger T80A ?
