Self-made s800 retractable landing gear.

@ Heli,

It is not bent.. does look like it from the picture. illusion..:) perhaps the thicker middle helps gives it that curve look.

added: BTW notice these are 2 different units. one is black and the other is grey. The black unit crack during the first few real flights in cold weather. The grey unit was put on to simulate what could have happened.. since I did not have any hard landing. So my comment is just my opinion on the bouncing effect could have cracked during the day it was out in the cold weather may have made the plastic a bit more brittle then normal @ 28 degrees..

KS

KS,

In your picture of the cracked actuator....Is the turnbuckle shaft bent, where it goes around your Vtx...? I have my turnbuckles adjusted pretty tight and I do not get that "Bounce" that you are getting. It appears that you had to bend it for clearance....of course it can be an optical illusion, from the angle of the photo.

Hi everyone, I just joined cause I'm looking for a cheaper system for my S800..
Did everyone find something that works and that's not expensive as hell as the dji system?
I found that one on ebay which seems to have good reviews but I don't know if anyone has tried it here.. http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...Name=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

Looking forward to see your replies

Whatever you do, don't buy the retracts in the link you sent. Those are woefully inadequate for a machine like the s800 (the retract units themselves are flimsy and underpowered. So is everything else about those retracts). The Pimp Your Copter retracts are not much better (most likely cheap $40 Lander units. The ones in the link your provided are probably $10 units. The Secraft v1 retracts used similar units--probably better--and were discontinued basically for being too flimsy and weak). For more information and proof of this, check out posts #3088 and #3175 in the following thread: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1677105&page=212#post23407206.

Your best bet, by far, are the RCTimer cloned s800 retracts:

If you find a more suitable landing gear than these, I would be VERY surprised. These are the ticket. I would not even waste my time looking for anything else. The only other viable alternatives, in my opinion, would be the original s800 retracts or the Secraft v2 (aka "pro") retracts (definitely not the v1 retracts). I got new s800 retracts for $500 from a private seller. If you are patient, you will likely find someone selling a nice used pair, since many are upgrading from the original s800 to the s800 Evo, which already comes with retracts (God help them).
