My first quad, build list needs rubber stamp of approval!

Hi All,

After seeing some of the pretty spectacular things these machines can do, and having a penchant for anything electronic, I've decided to bite the bullet and put in an order for my first quadcopter. I've put a fair amount research into what I'm getting, but not having done this before, I'd really appreciate some advice! The main thing I want to achieve with this build is decent flight times, good stability and the ability to fly with a gopro/similar, with the option of expanding and possibly adding fpv in the future.

Here is my parts list:

Frame
Hobbyking X650F Glass Fiber Quadcopter Frame 550mm

Props
10x4.5 SF Props 2pc Standard Rotation/2 pc RH Rotation (also got the same kit in Red)

Motor
D2830-11 1000kv Brushless Motor (x4)

Battery
ZIPPY Flightmax 4500mAh 3S1P 30C (with Low Battery Alarm)

ESC
TURNIGY Plush 25amp Speed Controller

Flight Control
ArduFlyer

TX/RX
Turnigy 9XR / OrangeRX

Total cost: $416.76 (which is really at the upper limit of where I want to be, obvious cut would be FC)

Main questions I have are: In general, will this work? Is the charger appropriate? Is there anything I'm missing, bearing in mind currently I have nothing :)?

Did you post this in the other forum ?? Somebody had a similar list there, just recently. Looks good to me, boss. You'll want more than one battery, though. Like 3 or 4. Also, you may be able to squeeze 11in instead of 10in on props with a 1000Kv motor on this. For learning to fly it makes the throttle not quite so "vicious". Possibly longer flight times, as well. Don't forget to buy several sets of props, too. Like 4. You'll bust a couple when learning and dialing in the FC.

I think that's a good idea, I might buy an extra set of 11" props and may get an extra ESC and motor just in case. Not sure about the extra flight time though with the 11" props? I understand that the larger the prop, the more efficient it is, but when I plug it into eCalc it says the flight time is actually less than with the 10"?? Link to eCalc with 11" props

Do you really want the ArduFlyer as a first controller, try a $30 KK2 to get going.

If you want to do video you will want some CF props, the RC Timer props are cheap and decent and well balanced from new.

Thanks, will look at getting this motor instead, as well as axing the ArduFlyer in favor of something a little cheaper.

ALso depending what you want to use this for the Naza Lite is very well priced now.

Could be, but I'd try it. It's the high kV that's killing this, with efficiency in mind, optimal for 3 cell packs is about 750 or so.

If you use a higher watt rating motor you might get more efficiency with a bigger prop. eCalc is only a guide.
