I started out with a crude aluminum motor boomed and PC board bodied quad. That morphed into an all aluminum version with retractable gear. That then evolved into a lightweight carbon fiber quad using a Multiwii Pro 2 FC. This playlist of YouTube videos documents the build from painful crash filled beginnings to carbon fiber rock solid flight. I'll warn you now, some of it isn't very interesting, and some of it is. It is a lot of videos to watch but the process of building a scratch first time quadcopter is documented, mistakes and all. Save it if you run out of time and watch some more of it later.
