Follow Me mode - Customized

Hi,

I'm a newbie here with ground robot experience, but new to drones. So, here goes some questions I've thinking about:

1. Create a modifiable “follow me” mode:

It seems that most “follow me” devices / software work by placing a GPS tracker on the object to track (e.g. person), and then the robot follows them using some preprogrammed distance behind the object.

But what if I want to program the robot so that if I push a button on say a breadboard (breadboard + Arduino UNO + GPS shield = tracker), it will now go in front of me instead so the “follow me” is really a “stay in front of me” now? Or...it will fly same the distance from me as the 'Follow Me' mode, but this time, it would be parallel to the side of me at the same distance as a normal “follow me”, and just fly as I drive parallel to me, but with the camera pointed at me?

I’d like to use a GPS shield attached to my Arduino UNO as the tracker, and the APM 2.5 (plus an add on GPS unit) as the board on my quadcopter.
So is what I’d like to do possible, and is it possible using the APM 2.5 / tracker setup as I describe?

2. Semi-autonomous – robot can go from follow me mode (autonomous) into RC mode, with press of a button

I’d like to be able to switch a robot from follow me mode into a manual RC so that I can use a custom-built RC on my tracker / breadboard, etc., instead of a handheld RC controller. (Basically, some buttons on a breadboard to have it do something I want, as described above.)
Also, is it possible to switch this out using some pre-made joystick controller? Just trying to keep my options open here.

3. Does the APM 2.5 have a preset PID for certain weight / frame of quadcopter?

If so, how easy is it to adjust things on the PIC? I’d like it obviously to remain stable during flight for smooth video (e.g. a GoPro, or another camera, e.g. Canon). Some frames are expensive, while others are certainly not.

Also, how much "better?" would flight stability / control be using the APM 2.6 vs APM 2.5?
