Does the camera have an output so you can see what you are going to take thru a FPV link? How do you trip the shutter from your transmitter.

Thanks

Yep the video shows the two FPV views - one from the Pixim Seawolf 2.8mm camera and the other the AV out view through the Canon G11 lens (I only show stills in the video). The shutter is tripped from the Futaba radio using a Gentles Ltd remote switch. Switching between the FPV views is via a main Tx switch and a widget/PCB available from e.g. firstpersonview.co.uk (you can get a 4-way switch from Canada - check YouTube for that one).

I love the Cotswolds, do you go to RIAT? Its so photogenic the whole area & in July the corn feilds are turning a nice golden brown, just beging for aerial shots...I hope to see more of your photography on here my friend. The 2nd photo was better, but still a touch close to the edge of the frame..try going back an extra 100yards & see what happens next time. I always find out my F.O.V. with what ever lens I'm using, then using an OS map you can make a triangle that covers the exact FOV of the lens, then overlay on a map & see where you have to go to get everything in.

Ross,

RIAT? would love to but more often than not I freeload on footpaths close to Kemble...

Flight planning is definitely a must. I actually use Google Earth as well as ESA's 3D view KML cone generator available here. That just leaves the light angles/shadow to plan which you can do via iPhone apps etc.

For e.g. White Cliffs it gives the client a good idea of FOV... (in this instance - National Trust Photo Library)

Hopefully I won't need to worry about the clipping when the D700 is the payload ;-) as soon as I'm feeling plucky enough, up she'll go with the 14mm f2.8. Curtailed flight time will likely be the major issue.

Still waiting for a decent gimbal controller noting all the sensible points made about where to mount one - ideally a mount & camera should meet a specific COG objective and any decent controller should ask where it resides in relation to the craft COG and that of the combined gimbal and camera (Anyone used a second Wookong-M - pretty sure it'd do quite well).

Kemble...I spent a weekend near by to take in the airhsow...2010 from memory, got up at 6am & made it to the layby at the end of the runway bu 06:45...at 07:30 the cops turned up with traffic cones & told me to jog on. I argued about it & said what if I hadnt been in my car? He didnt answer but said its health & safety....I then asked him why the members of the public sat on the wall were not being shifted..again he didnt answer. Yeoviliton is just as bad. As for Fairford (RIAT) We always go down the lane that touches the northern crash gate, midway down the runway & get some wicked shots...will be there again this year with mrs & kids..if you do come on over, look for a huge green fishing brolly...thats us ;)
I like the info on google, didnt know you could do that...impressive stuff.
I use a canon 40D & F2.8 28mm lens which come sout with crop factor as near to 50mm (human eye).
For my gimbal I use a FY30A, its ok, but not the best & has trouble controlling roll :(

What is the difference between the Canon G11 and G12

Rich

Rich,

No sensor difference but now that the G1X is out and has a sensor that's nearly APS-C size as well as HD Vid @ (24 fps?) then the G12 can be skipped? G1X is pricey though.

Ross, I started a thread on the FY-30A after looking at the gain pots through a macro lens. Couldn't believe how sensitive the adjustment is...

James

WOW!!! I've been swing them meggar degrees, from full one way to the other!!! so are you saying put all back at neutral & move by about 3 degrees? I might check the value of those trimmers & extend them out to bigger ones, multi turn even!
Thanks for the link James.
