Dumb question.. what module and receiver should I use?

I'm going to buy either a Turnigy 9XR or 9XR Pro from hobby king. I'd prefer a module and receiver that they have available. This will be connecting to a Naza V2 or Lite both with GPS if that makes a difference.

Also, is it possible to use the same setup on my nano qx?

And lastly.. is mode 1 and 2 nothing more than preference? My nano qx is mode 2 and I'm rather used to it. So I'd prefer to stay with it unless there's more to it.

I just ordered a Frsky combo for my 9x to go with my Naza m lite b'cause it has great range and good failsafe capabilities. If you buy their D4R-II rx you can connect it to Naza with only on cable using cppm;-).

Your nano will need dsm2/dsmx to bind. The orangerx module fixes that.

Mode 1 vs mode 2... Go for what you are used to
