DJI iOSD and compatible video transmitters

I'm wondering if anyone has successfully connected a DJI iOSD to another video tx (other than the AVL58) such as a 1.3GHz RangeVideo system?

I am getting 3.5 Km with AVL58 on the ground (LOS) and will probably get better in the air. Was too chicken to go beyond 1 km with my transmitter (Aurora 9, 2.4 Ghz) but I hear that the Hitec transmitter will outrange the DJI video system (Recent independant RC Sport Model review). They are claiming up to 6 miles (10 km) and I really think this is grossly exagerated. I'll be happy if proven wrong. Personally, I always assumed that the radio range was around 1 mile (1.6 km) max. Again, I would be happy to be wrong on this one.
Any inputs?
