Commercial UAV Insurance

Dear forum members

I am really hoping some of you can help me please - and I really hope I'm posting in the right area of your forum...

I need your advice re: insurers please - I have read the forum postings around this subject from last year and then dating back to 2012...but I am still really struggling today to get insurance.

I am based in the UK and operate commercially.

I need inflight insurance for all my kit and public liability - and it has to be full commercial insurance as I am/will be commercially operating. I.e., I cannot get hobbyist type insurance because I operate commercially - just to make that absolutely clear so I'm not wasting your time.

The quotes I have received have been ridiculous - we're talking up to £1800 plus an excess of up to £2500 until I have more years experience...

It seems like the insurance industry hasn't caught up with our industry and the regulations we're abiding by, the level of training and scrutiny we subject ourselves to...

I welcome ALL suggestions and am very grateful.

Thank you,

Rhiannon

Hey Rhiannon,

Welcome to the forum. Hopefully more commercial pilots, and particularly those in the UK, will weigh in here.

As an outsider to the commercial usas industry, but having paid for commercial business insurance for a few small businesses, the costs you mention don't seem horribly off-base. Although the inexperience penalty does seem a bit extreme.

I assume the majority of cost will derive from the risk of a liability, and this may be where the insurance industry is flying blind (pun intended!). It is still such a new industry, insurance companies can not draw on years of experience to underwrite from an informed perspective.

Glad you found us here at MRF. let us know what you're flying.

Have fun and fly safe.

Not so new and improving
I have just passed my RPQ-s today and have been quoted around £1200. £600 Public Liability and £600 aircraft cover but this is based on being an extension of a media policy I already hold. The company I use is Integro-ACJ in Colchester UK. They specialise in media production work and equipment. First class service for 20 years and sensible prices compared to many.

Hello,

I am new to this forum but I believe I can help out. I am an aviation insurance broker in the US. I work with all of the highest rated aviation insurance companies. We insure general aviation aircraft, flight schools, charter operators, skydiving operations, hangars and anything else related to aviation. 3 of the aviation insurance companies I work with have started offering commercial UAV insurance policies. Since I am not licensed to do business in the UK, I cannot help the OP myself. However, if you find an aviation insurance broker in the UK, they should be able to set you up. I hope that helps!

If anyone in the US is looking for a commercial UAV insurance policy, please email me at joe@bullockagency.com

Thanks,

Joe
