Can't get my tiny Whoop to fly with new Jumper transmitter

Massive newbie here got a tiny Whoop from Maker fire based on the Eachine Eo10. Flies fine with the stock transmitter but now I have bought a Jumper T8SG and I can't get it to work.

I've followed all the videos and it seems to bind OK, the Green light on the Tx comes on continuously. However, when I move the throttle all the way down to arm it like on the stock tx, nothing happens. The screen of the tx says that the throttle value is changing when I move the stick but nothing happens. The lights of the tiny Whoop keep flashing like they do with the old tx when it is bound but not armed.

Can anyone give me an idea of what I've done wrong?

I hear there are random problems binding these flight controller boards which is disappointing as I've just spent a bomb on the transmitter. I like the tiny Whoop, is there a flight controller that has a better protocol that is supported by my tx that I can be sure is going to work?
