Camera Comparison pics & vid

With all this discussion about the DJI Zenmuse gimbal and the even more remarkable Cineron I need to know the state of the cameras I currently have for AP use and which of them, if any, are worth persevering with. Having purchased AD-8 specifically for its stated capacity to carry a Canon 5D and then finding that the claims are ever so slightly optimistic I bought a NEX-5n. Unlike every other single user I am not that impressed by the softish raw images of the NEX. Then there is the venerable Panasonic HDC-SD9. It has produced some respectable results in the past but how does it match up now. And just for good measure, let's throw in the Pentax Optio compact and the GoPro.

The purpose of the comparison is for outright raw resolution. The video files were imported and no changes were made at all. Camera settings were basic shutter and aperture of 1/250th @ ƒ5.6 with 'Cloudy' WB and ISO 200. Where any of these options are not available it was left on Auto.

So how did all these do with the stills? (HDC-SD9 was excused from this session to avoid embarrassment)

1. Canon 5D 24mm - €2800
2. Sony NEX-5n, 16mm - € 900
3. Sony NEX-5n, 18mm (18-55 kit zoom)
4. GoPro HERO HD - €550
5. Pentax Optio S-12 - €200

Personally, I think the results are shocking and unfortunately bear weight to Denny's grumpy 'male jewellery' statements.

And how did they all match up with video? (Optio excused this time).

Good comparison...interesting to see the gopro isn't a million miles away from the others, I assume it's the Hero 1?

Gunter.

A thread no long ago compared the 5d to the Nex 5. The shots were not identical but close enough. The 5d has much wider dynamic range.
The new MkIII is said to be twice as good.
