MultiWii / NAZE / SP Racing F3 APM 2.6 6h GPS setup

I'm new to the ardu flight controllers and have some questions about setting up this system. I haven't purchased anything yet. Doez the APM 2.6 need code written or is it downloadable? I would be using this on a quad with GPS waypoints enabled. Any help for a noob is greatly appreciated.

You do not need to write code to use the APM flight controller. But you will need to do a fair amount of reading on how to install and configure it. It's not difficult but you do have to actually read the documentation.

The good news is that the community at DIYDrones have spent the last six months (probably much more) really getting all the documentation together and updated. It's quite good now, have a look at http://copter.ardupilot.com

At some point I would like to setup up the follow me feature similar to the 3dr iris. Is that possible with this fc? I would like to be able to link to my smart phone to enable this feature. Thanks
