Vibration dampening with F550 and aeroxcraft landing gear/gimbal

Very patiently ;) I found a seismometer app for the iPhone (called iSeismometer) and used that to analyse the vibes in the airframe, one motor at a time. I'm pretty sure there was a video kicking around on the interwebs at the time, showing a guy using it. Anyway, I disconnected all but one...

Props for F450 (APC / Gem Fan / stock)

Same. I think that's incredibly unlikely. Far more likely that a user would attempt to ream the prop and get it wrong, resulting in an off centre hole. I've seen that waaaaay too many times at the field :)

Props for F450 (APC / Gem Fan / stock)

Of course. You just have to make sure the hub is big enough to be bored out to the correct size (8mm iirc).

Props for F450 (APC / Gem Fan / stock)

Correct, but it still needs to be corrected in order to eliminate vibration. Doesn't matter *why* it's out of balance, unless the hole is also not perpendicular to the plane of the prop (as the video points out).

NAZA Assistant Calibration with RC Transmitter.

Nope....that relates to not moving the craft for 5 seconds after you connect power, while the MC is booting up.

Fast ascent causes quad to bank and pitch. Need help.

I'm not sure throttle calibration is your problem. I suspect your craft is simply too heavy for the chosen combination of motors/props/battery. I should have checked to see if you told us what gear you're using before I started typing :) Anyway, you can do some basic calculations based on the...

Fast ascent causes quad to bank and pitch. Need help.

As others have suggested, you may have an ESC that isn't giving the same full throttle response as the others, or you may have a motor that's not quite as good as the rest. Re the craft dropping suddenly when you go into manual mode, where did you have the throttle stick when you switched? If...

    DJI "NEW" 10" Props

The APC clones came from HobbyKing. They're called 'APC Style' props on there. They're close, but not quite the same material or quality. I've got some of the new DJI 10x3.8 props coming, so I'll test those as well.

Shall I get rid of Manual Mode?

LOL! Yes.....6kg would be a *very* different beast to fly!

Shall I get rid of Manual Mode?

Keep the manual mode! If you don't, you can't do this :highly_amused:

LED Lighting - What are you using?

    I'm using Turnigy LED strips that came from HobbyKing a year or so ago. <a href="http://imgur.com/hdDKRPG"><img src="http://i.imgur.com/hdDKRPG.jpg" title="Hosted by imgur.com" alt="" /></a>

    DJI "NEW" 10" Props

The DJI props are so thin, I wasn't game to sand them. I used clear mylar tape and wrapped it around the leading edge of the blade towards the tip. It's still on there now and hasn't needed redoing yet.....about 20 flights so far. It wasn't my intention to keep using these once I got the APC...

    DJI "NEW" 10" Props

I just did a couple of comparison flights with my night flight hexy setup. First half of the vid is the supplied DJI 10x4.5 props. Second half is a set of APC clone 10x5E props from HobbyKing. The DJI props make hovering thrust at less RPM than the APC clones....consequently I got a full minute...

NAZA Assistant Calibration with RC Transmitter.

This *is* in GPS mode. That's the problem. If it was just in Atti and drifting with the breeze then I would understand. My 'fix' seems to work every time though. Boot up, wait for it to find satellites, shut down, restart and immediately fly. If I do a flight soon after the first one, so it...

DJI F550 crashed and not sure why

I don't suppose you'd care to link those? We're setting up a 550 for FPV/AP at present and may consider replacing the motors if this is the case!

    DJI "NEW" 10" Props

Yep, I'll second this comment. I have both and the TopFlite one is definitely out of balance on its own. The prop stops in a different spot every time I move the cones around on the shaft :dread:. Not good. The Dubro one is perfect but it needs to be treated with care so you don't damage the...

NAZA Assistant Calibration with RC Transmitter.

Something else I've noticed....if I boot up to fly and it takes a little while to find satellites, I'm virtually guaranteed that it will drift to the right after I take off. However, if I boot up, wait for the red light to stop flashing, then disconnect the power and boot up again, all is well...

Having Difficulty with Naza-M GPS Calibration

Props and motors all balanced? CG is right on the money? What's your altitude gain set at? That might be why it's climbing fast. Yawing is achieved by differential motor speeds, so make sure your motors are all the same and spin freely etc. If you're doing a rebuild, does that mean you had a...

What is accepted as "normal" motor vibration?

If you are able to shut down the other motors so you can do one at a time (I disconnect the bullets from the ESC to the motors on these smaller craft.....I just pull the signal wires for the ESC on the larger craft that are hard wired), you can place the iPhone on the craft to see the vibes (I...

What is accepted as "normal" motor vibration?

Your motors should feel silky smooth when they run. If they don't, they're out of balance. The free iSeismometer app is useful for this purpose. Just do one motor at a time....it's worth the effort to get a smooth flying craft. Same deal with props. Use a good balancer like the Dubro one and do...
