Kits in general are not as tidy looking as a mass produced item like those from DJI or Walkera maybe Align, depends on what you want to accomplish. A home built suav (depending on your skills and patience) will mostly look untidy and home built (lots of wiring and electronics, camera FPV etc.)...

Hi my understanding is that hard case batteries are used in car racing etc. where they are subject to much rougher treatment and need to be protected. The reason that they are generally not used in the air is because they are heavier than those without case. regards - bruce

It is well known that an obstruction to the airflow after it goes through the propeller reduces efficiency slightly more than in front of the propeller (as long as the obstruction is the same distance and size from the propeller e.g. the copter arms) regards - bruce
