Gongrats to Aerial MOB and Mr. Kloner......well done

I have no objection to them coming up with a licensing structure for UAS. I just think they need to have different levels of licensing. A person who plans on doing aerial photography for realtors and such, who never plans on going over 400', shouldn't have to become a full fledged commercial...

Gongrats to Aerial MOB and Mr. Kloner......well done

The requirement for an RC operator to have a commercial pilots license is beyond laughable. It's like demanding that a person, who brings firewood across a lake in a canoe for a fee, obtain a ship captians license.

Show what you filmed - Post Your Video Here

Poor guy...his first 3 (and only) posts were to show people his video. Everybody makes stupid mistakes, and at least he was smart enough to pull it if the video showed bad practices.

FAA attempts to ban FPV Goggles

Yup! I just received this from the FAA's attorney. I have to say that I'm shocked he responded so quickly...he must be getting slammed right now! "The interpretation will publish in the Federal Register tomorrow, at that time it will be available in the docket for comment. The document that...

FAA attempts to ban FPV Goggles

I tried, and I can't find ANYTHING related to this even when I search for everything the FAA submitted over the last 30 days.

FAA attempts to ban FPV Goggles

Here's the actual spec rules the FAA released. This isn't good at all.

ESCs turn on when TX turned off ??

It sounds like the failsafe is set to provide that amount of throttle when the RX loses signal.

FAA Prohibits Commercial Use & FPV?

http://amablog.modelaircraft.org/amagov/2014/06/23/faa-publishes-its-interpretation-of-the-special-rule-for-model-aircraft/ "To ensure that the operator has the best view of the aircraft, the statutory requirement would preclude the use of vision-enhancing devices, such as binoculars, night...

FAA attempts to ban FPV Goggles

FAA Prohibits Commercial Use & FPV Goggles This is not good... FAA attempts to ban FPV Goggles

This is an "interpretation" of their definition of model aircraft in their already existing regulations. So it takes effect immediately and gives them something to use to go after model aircraft pilots that are operating in a way they disagree with. This announcement also prohibits all...

    Want To Buy Multi-Rotor

If you feel that $479 is too expensive then your probably going to be stuck building your own quad, but that isn't a very easy thing to do unless you are familiar with multi-rotor power systems and programming flight control boards. The phantom wouldn't be compatible with your Spektrum TX out...

    wind limit for flying octocopter

I thought Photohigher gimbals were considered really nice gimbals? Could the problem be due to your gimbal being brushless and maybe it can't handle the weight of your camera? Is your octo holding steady while the gimbal is moving with the wind?

Aeronavics / Droidworx Inexpensive center plates?

I bought an AD6 frame off a friend and it came with a spare dome and a bunch of the shorter cf arm tubes. I was thinking about using those arms, and the spare dome, to build an inexpensive X quad and using the electronics out of another quad that I have for it. Do any of you know of any...

Rhode Island Prohibits Privately Owned Drone Use Over Public Events

I found this interesting... http://wpri.com/2014/06/14/no-drones-above-summer-events-in-ri-feds-say/ While I agree that it would be in bad form for anyone and everyone to fly over a public event, the regulations they mention in the article don't apply to RC aircraft. The RI Aeronautics...

N00b question... How do I know when my battery is about to die?

Seriously please do some research on LiPo batteries and please don't put your MR back up in the air until you understand what you are doing. This isn't meant as a jab, I just don't want you to ruin your gear or hurt yourself or anyone else. Running a battery too low can easily cause it to puff...

Show what you filmed - Post Your Video Here

Thanks for the advice! I don't have after effects but I've been thinking about getting it. The whole time I was editing it, I kept thinking that it looked over saturated, but I never did anything about it. I don't know kid I was just being lazy, or if it just got used to it after awhile :)

Show what you filmed - Post Your Video Here

This is my first attempt at shooting a property which I did for my neighbor as a gift. The quality isn't the greatest because this was shot with a GoPro, on a cheap home built Batbone quad, with no gimbal. Because I had no gimbal, I had to stabilize the video in YouTube. I have a Droidworx...

    City Safety??

I personally would consider any flying over people and/or public streets as being reckless. If you want to film stuff like that then my guess is that you would have to get proper permits with the city and have the areas closed off during filming.

Gongrats to Aerial MOB and Mr. Kloner......well done

Thanks, Moto, I'll get my profile updated now, and I'll take a look at the AMA website. I totally forgot they were working on keeping track of all of the laws in each state.

    Orientation, what's the secret?

Using a simulator helps a lot, IMO. What really helped me, though, was to get a small quad (protoX works great) and fly it from the couch once or twice a night. It annoyed my wife at first, but now she barely noticed it sand actually enjoys watching it sometimes. The only other advice I can...
