Group Build 2014, DJI NAZA/F450 Quadcopter!

Not really any savings in building a kit contrary to what you might think. The kit offers a lot more flexibility then the RTF's as the RTF comes bundled and that's what you get. Should you start out with an F450 as an example and then decided to go bigger F550, S800, etc. all or most of the...

    Remote zoom compact camera

I am a local property inspector looking to use a drone to do the roof. I received an AR Drone for last Christmas as kind of a proof of concept to see if this would work for taking still photos and with some modifications I see that it may be possible. Specifically I would need to tilt and zoom...

    FPV Setup - DJI 550

Mine is steady with the 2 axis gimbal, but also depends on the amount of wind. I would say mine is fine in winds up to say 10 miles an hour.

    FPV Setup - DJI 550

I have the F550 w/gimbal & GoPro and just thinking intuitively the F550 is going to do better in the wind then the others as; #1 is a hex-copter, and #2 it weighs more and has a higher payload and thus a more stable platform, especially with the GPS option!

Group Build 2014, DJI NAZA/F450 Quadcopter!

OK I'll jump in - I have been following the thread and did post a couple of questions regarding the Hobbyking frames verses DJI, in any case I have been doing research since Jan and finally settled on the F550 primarily because of what I have learned from this thread. So next issue was do I do...

    FPV Setup - DJI 550

I'm thinking cootertwo is thinking that FPV is using goggles! Anyway I think if you look around and do some searching you will find many many different setups for FPV on the F550 so you are not plowing any new ground here. I have seen where some have used separate batteries to power the GoPro...

Looking to Trade New AR Drone for DJI F550

Sorry if I posted in the wrong location, I did not see a for trade thread. Anyway I asked Santa for an AR Drone for Christmas and got it, my intent was to use it as a trial balloon (no pun intended) to see how a UAV might work to do roof inspections. So i was impressed with the possibilities...

Canon 5D markii - aerial photograhy

Use 11-pin Mini-USB Port on Camera to Breakout the Video Feed Newbie here and probably should not jump in but what the heck. I have been looking at this issue of using a low cost Canon point and shoot, in particular the ELPH 300 HS which has image stabilization as well. I can use CHKD running...

Home Inspector in Arizona Looking at Drone Options for Roof Inspections

The HDSK option allows you to control Canon's low cost point and shoot cameras (ELPH as an example at 125 grams) through their USB ports and are controllable via RC gear to include zoom at 5X.

Home Inspector in Arizona Looking at Drone Options for Roof Inspections

Excellent stuff Kloner!! Well I have to make some observations about your roof: it is in replacement condition and should be evaluated by a licensed roofer. I would guess it to be 20+ years old and beyond its useful life!! The 1st portion you show in the video with all of the exposed...

Home Inspector in Arizona Looking at Drone Options for Roof Inspections

Good point you make Mike, however most inspectors out here in Arizona do NOT walk the roof, I have tended to be an exception and have always, to the extent I can get to it, walked the roof, there are some roof's, clay tile, that you can't walk as the weight would break the tiles. AZ is one of...

Home Inspector in Arizona Looking at Drone Options for Roof Inspections

Its possible, depends on the $'s. In my case I am already there at the house which covers my gas expense. If I had someone meet me to do it they would need to cover travel expense, portion of equipment cost, etc. I'm thinking I would need to actually "see" the roof and its surface in order to...

Phantom Vision - Can I produce video that I can sell?

I concur with Sapho relative to the amount of time I have put into doing the research, posting on forums, watching YouTube, manufacturers sites, etc. My specific flying experience, and modifications to see if it would work for my application was the AR Drone. I probably knew up front when I...

Phantom Vision - Can I produce video that I can sell?

Not sure if I mentioned it in this thread but there is a local company here in Phx doing the real estate aerial video thing and states the video is free, he just charges for the editing!! For me I could see a situation where I am taking an aerial video of a property I have been contracted to...

    FPV Setup - DJI 550

Kloner what 8" monitor do you recommend for outside viewing? I can go with 115V no problem with my rig but seems most for the outside glare would be 12V? What should I expect to pay?
