    Sony A6300 Camera Discussion

There is a new firmware upgrade for the a6300 that supposedly fixes the thermal problem: http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sony-releases-new-firmware-update-a6300-fixes-overheating-issue/ -- Gary

    Sony A6300 Camera Discussion

Yep, the 10-18 is definitely on my wishlist. Re: the workflow issue, I'm happy to report that I have upgraded my MB Pro's memory to 16GB, and I've added 500GB San Disk SSD in place of the optical drive. It was actually a very easy mod, and only took about 40 minutes, total. FCP is now a ton...

    Sony A6300 Camera Discussion

I received my 18-105 lens last week, and I'm quite happy with it. I used it last weekend at wedding I was at, down in San Diego. I love the zoom range, and from what I've seen, this is a very sharp lens. Rick is right, the quality is quite good and it is only a bit more than half the price of...

    Sony A6300 Camera Discussion

I thought I read somewhere that the heat issue could be tied to using slower speed SD cards. This could be the reason that some experience this issue and others do not. Anyway, I haven't had the heat issue, to date. I also don't see a rolling shudder problem, unless you are doing superfast pans.

    Sony A6300 Camera Discussion

Thanks, Rick. The dynamic range is very impressive, as is the clarity of the 10-18mm lens. Anyway, I'm going to give these settings a shot. BTW, what are you using to edit and color your videos? -- Gary

    Sony A6300 Camera Discussion

I agree, stills pulled from the 4k video are pretty amazing. Rick, are you shooting 4K/24p or 4K/30p? I know the 24p25p modes are supposed to be without pixel binning, but have you noticed a big difference? -- Gary .

    Sony A6300 Camera Discussion

My immediate need is for stills, so the longer zoom would be a big plus. I have a shoot from a boat coming up where I will be doing some video as well, but It might be using a CAME Steadicam instead of a gimbal, unless I can get a gimbal together with Roee's new CP software. For that setup, I'll...

    Sony A6300 Camera Discussion

I saw a video that compared the 6300 4k to the A7s II and the 6300 was clearly sharper, with the same lens. Very impressive. So, how does the 18-105 compare to the 10-18, in terms of sharpness? I'm eventually going to get both, but for now, I can only get one. For my immediate needs, I think...

    Sony A6300 Camera Discussion

Actually, the 18-105 will mainly be used with a handheld setup. For aerial, I'm hoping the 16-50mm kit lens will work well enough, initially at least. If not, I will probably look at the Sony 20mm. I do seem to recall that this worked pretty well. I had borrowed a friend's 20mm for some tests a...

    Sony A6300 Camera Discussion

Hi Rick -- Thanks for the great info. Up until I just got the a6300, I've had a Sony a99 with a couple of good Sony/Zeiss lenses, the 24-70mm f/2.8 (SAL2470Z), and the 70-200mm f/2.8 (SAL70200G). This camera setup was great for stills, but I never used it for video because it was just too...

    Sony A6300 Camera Discussion

I recently purchased an a6300, which is probably my favorite camera ever. I am planning to use it on a handheld setup, but will also look at getting it airborne with a 680Pro setup that I never finished. Not sure on the gimbal yet, but I was leaning towards a CAME-MINI3. Now that it looks like...

    Hoverfly Hoverfly Gimbal Controller?

That's all well and good, George, but why don't you try orienting the board in a horizontal position, to see if that causes the same issues we are seeing. Also, it doesn't explain why, for instance, that I don't have the same problem with v1.03 What's up with that? I've been an aerospace...

    Hoverfly Hoverfly Gimbal Controller?

I have tried resetting, re-calibrating, etc., but with v1.7r2, I even get yaw coupling with everything off except power to the Naza flight controller and the HFG board. Withe board basically pointing north, at initialization, if I manually yaw left, the gimbal rolls to the right. Yawing back...

    Hoverfly Hoverfly Gimbal Controller?

Pete -- I am now experiencing exactly the same problem and the only change in this setup is that I decided to try v1.7v2. Bad mistake. :upset: In the video below, I'm using a completely stock F550, with our AG600 gimbal and a Hero3. I have a second GoPro mounted off one of the back legs, which...

    Hoverfly Hoverfly Gimbal Controller?

Yes, I did that, and I've tried different cameras. Surprisingly, the NEX-5N wasn't as bad as my RX100. The worst, though, is the PJ710V. The HFG board needs to be close to 7" away. With the NEX-5N, it is more like 5", but not directly over it. The RX100 needs to be a good 6" away. -- Gary

    Hoverfly Hoverfly Gimbal Controller?

Yeah, I think you really need to move it behind the gimbal somewhere. I haven't ever got one to work when it was directly over, or in front of the camera. -- Gary

    Hoverfly Hoverfly Gimbal Controller?

Hi Pete -- We too have reverted to v1.03, as it causes less problems in this area than v1.6, but it still will do it. The trick to a workaround is to move the HFG board so that it is at least six inches away from the body of the camera, and also not anywhere near being directly over the camera...

Is anybody looking at the v1.6 problem with yaw-roll coupling? -- Gary

Hoverfly HoverflyGIMBAL Firmware/Setup Client version 1.6 - Even Newer and More Improved!

Yep, something in either v1.5 or v1.6 got broken. I loaded v1.03 back in and did another test flight this morning with zero yaw-roll coupling issues. I have the gains dialed in pretty close now, but the tilt settings still could use a bit more tweaking, I think. With this latest AG550v2...
