Can anyone tell me the diff or pro/con of building a +quad or xquad. Is one better than the other.

Very new to it all. Have been watching videos and reading everything I can find on quads for at least 3 months now. I don't have anything yet but would like to build my first quad. I pretty much understand it all or at least a lot about most components. I would really appreciate some suggestions...
