2 devastating crashes in a month using Wookong

For about a year now I've been reading about fly-aways and sudden uncontrollable flight. I've had it happen a few times myself flying with the APM running Arducopter. Recently a friend and I have been doing a lot of comparisons between his Droidworx copter flying with a DJI Wookong and my...

    Aeronavics / Droidworx XM configuration

That's exactly what I did on my Droidworx CX and it worked fine.

    Hi from Downunder

Howdy from Canberra. Seems like a lot of users are in Sydney these days. You have plenty of company up there. Maybe some day we can all have a meet up. In the meantime, enjoy the adventure. Plenty of interesting things going on here. It's a great group of people.

Confused about APM telemetry VS FrSky and FPV

Well, first of all, how far do you need it to go? That will determine what antennas you use etc. I can assure you it will go much further than LOS. As for the video, it's totally separate system. You can buy OSD boards from 3DR, JDrones etc that accept input from the 3DR radios and overlay all...

Confused about APM telemetry VS FrSky and FPV

Forget about the XBee. The 3DR TX/RX radio kit works much better and is cheap. You can get it in 900mhz or 2.4 versions depending on your need.

    MultiWii / NAZE / SP Racing F3 APM 2.5 / 2.6 on 6S setup

Oh boy! Another Droidworx down under. I really think we need to have a meet up somewhere. I'm also please to see more people giving the APM a go on them. I had a chat with one of the developers just yesterday about some very interesting GPS concepts and I can tell you that the APM platform is...

    Told to move along...

This statement is certainly not correct. There might be local council laws that prohibit flying in Council parks but it's certainly legal to fly RC craft in places other than RC clubs. A local group of RC park flyers here in Canberra were recently asked to move on by a Ranger as well. They...

Droidworx SkyJib Lite Ti Coax Build

Last week I finally got my Droidworx SkyJib in the air and very stable. It was a real joy to watch it just sit wherever I put it and fly around with ease and precision. The hover throttle rate was way too high at 80% so some recalculation was required. The outcome was to move up to either 6S...

    Over-flying houses.

I'm yet to be convinced that manual flying is any safer than autonomous flying. Remember, the flight controller is in charge regardless of what mode you are in. The receiver in your craft sends input to the flight controller which then either passes it on or modifies it in some way or another...

    aeroxcraft brushless gimbal

I just set up the same board and yes, it was difficult. In my case I had a backup board and when I put it on things worked fine with the defaults. However, the software is just woeful. Like you I spent a lot of time trying to work out the pitch until I finally realised the pitch and roll pages...

Aeronavics / Droidworx Buying CX-600 with PayPal - Droidworx not responding to my emails.

They can be slow on responding but usually no more than a day or two for ordering. I use Paypal to pay Droidworx for all my orders. Once you receive your invoice by email all you have to do is log in to your Paypal account and transfer money to droidworxnz@gmail.com which will come up as Linda...

Aeronavics / Droidworx New forum area, Droidworx

Your best bet is to run this by Droidworx tech staff. It's good to get info here too of course but if you get the info from Droidworx then they will stand behind the choices later on if you need it.

Allowing complete novices to fly a QuadCopter...

I agree with you. While I think they shouldn't be restricted by age I do think anyone doing a class with kids will need to pay a lot of attention to increased safety and control. Liability is going to be a big issue. For instance, I think you will need to fly indoors as a start. It only takes...

Droidworx SkyJib Lite Ti Coax Build

Well, finally something positive to report. I managed to get the SkyJib to fly with the APM. Still needs some tuning but I have no doubt now that it will work just fine. I've had feedback now from about 4 other users of Droidworx using the APM which were very helpful. Bluerex helped me out the...

DSLR Brushless Gimbal Build/Conversion under $1000

I bought something very similar to this at copterframes.com but it wasn't brushless. I've just ordered a brushless upgrade kit from them and with that I'd say it will be virtually identical to this one. Same price range as well. Astonishing how the price is coming down. It might be a bit...

Allowing complete novices to fly a QuadCopter...

If you want to keep the cost down, allow the kids to actually learn how they work, and have the most features then I'd highly recommend you consider the Ardupilot APM and Arducopter software. You can do all the things you requested and more quite easily with that platform. The geofencing now...

ArduPilot APM 2.5 FC on Droidworx

That video shows (in this order) Me trying out inputs in different directions to see how it reacts then Switching to Alt-Hold mode to see if it's stable enough to use auto flight modes of the APM then Switching to Loiter mode to see how stable it is The above looked so good I switched it to...

ArduPilot APM 2.5 FC on Droidworx

Back from holidays and back at it. Thanks to several other users I've had some success. While the following video ends with a crash which I've yet to determine the cause of, as you can see the APM 2.5 flight controller and the new 3.0.1 version of Arducopter software is doing a pretty good job...
