X650 will struggle to lift a DSLR.
DJJ F550 or XA Hexa with strong motors should cope with one of the new generation cameras such as Sony NEX5, Lumix G3 etc
go for DJI FC, Wookong or Naza, will both support 6 motors and gimbal and with the Zenmuse out soon should be an easy fit to the F550.

I reckon at those temps everything would be a lot stiffer and any vibration absorbing qualities of all the materials would lessen including the sticky rubber back of the gp mount,

We use these type of cases as standard along with pelicases in my line of work, they take some abuse and hold out somehow. certainly more than a match for international travel and developing world baggage handlers!
Would anyone disagree that the Gopro2 has eliminated the need for a low end P&S cameras for AP/AV? I cant find anything more suitable till getting up to the NEX5 etc level.

@thepelell: I have interest in th e220/elph300. concerned with your reports on lens vibration, do you attribute this to the damaged? and you have IS on. Is it an option to disable IS.

Monster, its not the frame, the frame does not move, its props or motors or both, yes the vibration may well be transmitted through the frame and I dont know if the material has any absorbing qualities. Follow Kloners advice on a recent thread...
