    Baltimore/DC Fly-in

I went to a fly-in today with folks from DC & Baltimore. It was bitter cold and windy, but we still have a good run of it.

So, you think you can fly a Multirotor huh?

He is one of the best LOS pilots in the world. I can only imagine how much stuff gets sent to him for testing.

    DJI Zenmuse gimbal for Gopro

Jazz DDG is just the name of a DIY gimbal that someone made with the Alexmos controller board. Currently, there are no complete packages available, but they should be out in the next few weeks. Only DIY's as of right now (I believe).

    Gesture based RC control

So I'm sure some of you may have seen the Leap Motion gesture based UI. It's some thing along the lines of an XBox connect that lets you control your computer with different gestures. I've been approved to become one of their beta testers and should have a control unit showing up sometime soon...

    XAircraft X650 V8 4s batteries?

Yeah, if you are talking about the stock electronics, I'd watch out for 4S batteries. Haleswoodcrew, are you using stock XAircraft ESC's and Motors?

    Alex Mos brushless gimbal controller

Rotor Jockey, I think you might be better served with a long range fixed wing FPV set up. Team Black Sheep make some fantastic "rite wings" that would do a good job. Have you heard about the work Google is doing with fixed wing drones in Africa? They are very simular from what I hear. Good luck!

    Alex Mos brushless gimbal controller

Yup, you are correct. I don't have it set up, but in a nut shell you fly up to a POI, engage the POI mode, the fly backwards away from it (at least 5 meters) to set the radius of your circle. Then when you give it stick controls to fly sideways, it flys around the POI keeping the nose of the...

    Alex Mos brushless gimbal controller

POI is a feature that has been built into the Wookong flight controller for some time now. It lets you define a point of interest, and then fly circles around it in an automated fashion while still facing the point of interest. It would only help you watch Rhino's if they didn't move. No worries...

    Alex Mos brushless gimbal controller

I ordered the board in hopes of building my own NEX sized gimbal. It seems that most of the companies are starting with GoPro, then going up to NEX and finally DSLR. I have a specific design in mind, so I'm going to have a go of it myself first.

    Quad pole balancing

As great as these videos are, most people don't realize they are in a controlled environment. They can only do that because the room they are in is filled with HD cameras that monitor the quads 100's of times a second and send the flight control signals from outside the aircraft. Nothing in the...

    Alex Mos brushless gimbal controller

I have been following the Viacopter thread on RCG, but I'd like to get a conversation going about this here. I just ordered a board btw. Viacopter opened up the site today for preorders that will be shipping in 1 week. Here is the rcg thread that I mentioned above.

    Alex Mos brushless gimbal controller

I agree. In 6 months time, these things will be locked in. Still, there is a little voice in my head telling me to get a board now and start experimenting! It's tempting, especially since I have a little more time than usually right now and the weather is absolute crap right now!

    Alex Mos brushless gimbal controller

I assume you are talking about the second video? That one is shot with a Canon 550, which is a pretty good size. I know he has tested several motors so far, check out his youtube channel. I assume a camera of that size needed it, or maybe he was just trying to test 2 different motors at the same...

    Alex Mos brushless gimbal controller

I'm not sure how many of you have been following all the recent developments with the brushless gimbal controller from Alex Mos. I know that at least one company finally launched their board this week and it starts shipping next Friday. I just came across this video from someone that was...

Zenmuse Gimbal for GoPro from DJI

You can say that again. I just wonder what is going to happen when all these companies building the GoPro brushless gimbals move onto the NEX sizes. How much of a performance difference will you have to see to justify spending $3,500 on a product instead of $750 or $1000.

Zenmuse Gimbal for GoPro from DJI

Wow.. anyone look at that video on the Youtube site? DJI are getting beat up pretty bad in the comments. Alex Mos is really throwing a wrench into this plan. I hate to say it, but unless they price this at or below $500, it's not going to sell much at all.

For Sale: Carbon Fiber DJI arm extension kit

One set sold, and one left. This is the raw extension set for $55 shipped inside the lower 48. These are 3mm 100% Carbon Fiber. Very light and extremely strong. I would guess the arms would break before the extension would. This is the only time these will ever be cut out of 3mm, so take...

Newbie seeking advise from the community

The problem with stabilizing GoPro footage is that the fisheye lens always gives it away. Yes, it might come out less jumpy, but then it starts to look like it was warped in the areas that the stabilization happened. This doesn't happen on a lens that doesn't barrel the image.
