    Maiden flight of an Iris

I helped a friend maiden his 3DR Iris RTF quad today. Other than the throttle being a bit too responsive for my preferences, it flew like a dream. Smooth and rock solid. I put it in Loiter (GPS) mode for my friend's first attempt at flying a quad and he did great. No problem at all. Given that...

    Gimbal Will Not Tune? Suggestions

I think you should turn down the PID setting to 0 to see if the twitching stops. If so, then it's just a case of the PIDs being too high. You might want to set the motor power low as well and then turn it up slowly.

    Gimbal Will Not Tune? Suggestions

Look at the three dials in the GUI. If they don't move the correct direction then the IMU setting is wrong. I suspect you need -Z. Anyway have a play with it until the three gauges move the correct direction. You have to press Save each time you change the setting. But until those three gauges...

    Show us what you shot.

Just stunning. I've been meaning to try that for some time now. As usual you set the standard extremely high! Congrats.

    Gimbal Will Not Tune? Suggestions

Do you have the IMU Sensor mounted facing up with the arrow on the sensor pointing forward? Twitching is often time caused by the sensor position not being defined properly. Sensor Axis Top and Right X means the sensor is mounted facing up and the arrow forward. Can you provide a photo of the...

Help with Pixhawk logs after crash

Do you know that there is a specific forum at http://ardupilot.com/forum/ for assistance with log analysis? Nothing wrong with asking here as well but that forum is monitored by 3DR staff and some of the developers as well. I'm just checking that you are aware of it in case you want to try it out.

    Pixhawk Feedback?

If you want to be on the bleeding edge, enjoy tinkering and have the time to learn all the idiosyncrasies of the Pixhawk then IMHO you will love it. It really is an amazing project. IMHO it's working much better for use in planes than in MRs though. At one point I had APMs/Pixhawks in six...

    Drone crashes go mainstream

They received a bit of grief from me and others about choosing images that show unsafe practices. Hopefully that will influence future competitions.

    Came 7000 3 axis gimbal?

Yes, without a doubt gimbals have been the biggest pain in the *** of all the equipment. I really love flying and multirotors but at the end of the day I'm in to this for the filming and it can be really frustrating when other things take away from that rather than supporting it. What I want is...

    Anyone from Sydney Australia?

I don't know the details but I'm pretty sure XAircraft have fly days down South. Check out their website of give Anthony a call if interested. I've seen some photos from a few of them and it looks like fun. I really hope I get the chance to drive up from Canberra and meet you all one day.

    Came 7000 3 axis gimbal?

I'm having a bit of success with the CAME-TV Gimbal. I'm only using one of the IMUs as the frame IMU was picking up a lot of noise. GotHeli has been fantastic about helping me with that and I've sent off a video to CAME-TV showing them that the Alexmos board that came with the gimbal isn't...

A2 fails- back to square one

They are all probably busy making Phantoms and spending all the money they make selling them. I've often times wondered why DJI even bothers with the high end of the market? Well, I guess they don't eh?

Can I get a little help here! NEED some email sent from professionals..

Looks like the company has been forced to clean up their act, just as you tried to help them do. Too bad they didn't listen to you earlier. http://www.suasnews.com/2014/07/30223/faa-launches-investigation-into-cleveland-drone-company-after-drone-flown-during-bridge-demolition/ So it's all worked...

    Accident with Octocopter

21.6 is getting down there but I wouldn't think it would be enough for the ESCs to shut the motors off. I land at 21.5 and I'm pretty sure it would fall out of the sky at 20V. I think you are really pushing things going down to 20V. If I were you I'd just do some tests to check at what point the...

    Airport Radar Interference?

I wouldn't depend on the GPS in this situation. That 1.03Ghz is a bit close and GPS is a very weak signal. It doesn't take much to make it cranky.

    Airport Radar Interference?

I have to ask. Who is letting you fly at an airport that close to their radar? I'm also interested in your question because a friend just told me a story about marine radar causing a film crew to crash their copter. I know marine is in the same range as our Tx but when I asked an Arducopter...

3DR Iris or DJI Phantom FC40

I'm not sure if my opinion is really worth anything but I'll throw it out there. I'm no fan of DJI products but the FC40 sounds like great value and what you want. It will probably be a good start for you. If you want to learn a bit more about copters and how they work etc you will benefit a...

    Accident with Octocopter

It's common to set the type to Nicad even with Lipos as it sets the cutoff level to a lower value. The cutoff value is there to protect the battery from being damaged by draining it too far. This works great in a plane. But with a multi rotor people would prefer a damaged battery over a crashed...
