2 Axis Mount for Sony NEX 5N

Attached are a few shots of the new NEX-5/GH2/550D gimbal, with the integrated landing gear. This is mounted underneath a DJI hex frame that I just finished setting up. there's a lot of commonality between the GoPro and NEX gimbal assemblies. The roll axis is identical. The yoke and tilt...

    F450/Naza fun in the wind...

Yes, anything can happen. :) I used to live in an area called Porter Ranch, in the northern SF Valley part of LA. We lived on a canyon that took a left turn, right at our house. The Santa Ana winds like we had here the other day (25-30mph...) would be more like 75-80mph up there. You pretty...

DJI F550 Hexa Build with WKM

Got the gimbal/LG/battery plate assembly together, and installed underneath the F550 hex frame. I think this is going to be my favorite setup, as everything is very robust. :) I still need to do a few things, like program the servos, add some pool noodles to the skids, put on props, and then...

    F450/Naza fun in the wind...

Thanks, Chris, for the bearing info, and the magnet tip. :) I just did another test flight , with the 9x5x3 props, and These are definitely the smoothest, so far. I took the time to really balance them and they are a ton quieter than the 10" stock props, and the motors were barely even warmer...

    F450/Naza fun in the wind...

Yes, that looks like the right one. You should be able to find those pretty easy, I would think.

    F450/Naza fun in the wind...

Changing to better bearings sounds like a good idea. What size are they? Time to put in an order to Boca. :) Right now mine are all getting hot together, and they all have the same amount of cogging. My setup is pretty heavy, though, at 2.1kg/4-1/2 lbs. -- Gary

    yuris flamewheel legs

Don't know, as I've never tried it, on any quad. Not sure why I'd ever want to either. :)

    yuris flamewheel legs

The two 4s-2600 packs mount to the end of the battery plate/gimbal mount, and they perfectly counter-balance the camera and gimbal. I actually think this flies a bit more stable than my other F450 setup, which is quite a bit lighter. -- Gary

    DJI WKM wish list

Yes, this is true. Once enabled, you can't stop the process. The first time I tried the RTH function, my GPS module came loose. This caused a 30-foot spiral descent, part of which went right over my head, and then it flipped over after skidding on the ground. Broke two props. I had zero control...

I just use some thick CA/KrazyGlue. It holds really well. :) -- Gary

    F450/Naza fun in the wind...

Yesterday the winds were less, but still a bit gusty. I decided to try the stock 10" props, but I'm really not too happy with them. I spent an hour making sure all four were perfectly balanced, but there's no way they are as smooth as the 11x5 Graupners. I'm guessing it has to do with the fact...

    F450/Naza fun in the wind...

Yesterday I thought I'd see how my F450/gimbal setup worked in strong gusty winds. We have this condition in southern California right now called Santa Ana winds, where a high pressure system over Nevada sends winds in a southwestern direction towards LA, compressing, heating up and drying out...

    yuris flamewheel legs

Those do look pretty cool, but I just use $2 pool noodles. :) Not because I'm cheap, but because it really helps with orientation. Obviously, though, this is not an issue for an FPV platform. :)-- Gary

DJI F550 Hexa Build with WKM

I finally got my DJI F550 hex together, and installed the WK-M on it, which came off my XA hexa setup. All I need to do is throw on some props, and it'll be ready for a test flight. Andrey shipped me the first landing gear/NEX gimbal assembly today. If the planets align, I might get this by...

WKM in the wind - Your experiences - What could be improved

Smaller props equal higher disc loading. Anyway, I've found this to be true as well. :)

    Gimbal Alware

I've found that with geared systems, there's always going to be a bit of backlash, or "slop" in the gears, which tends to get worse over time. You don't have this problem with belt drives, in my opinion. -- Gary

WKM in the wind - Your experiences - What could be improved

I've seen the same thing. Once I installed the vibration isolation plate on my Naza-equipped F450, I had all sorts of crazy oscillations with the basic gains set at around 125% and the attitude gains set at 85%. I had to reduce the basic gains to about 90% and I have the attitude gains up to...

WKM in the wind - Your experiences - What could be improved

I have two points to add. First, we know now that the WK-M does not like light disc loading, so making sure a setup is not over-propped for a given AUW is important. With light disc loading, it is extremely hard to get the gains high enough to stop wobbling on descent, without going into...

DJI and hexa in high winds

I too have little problem with a WK-M setup and wind. If you are getting lot of wobbling, clearly the gains are not high enough. If you can't get the gains high enough to stop the wobbling without the platform starting to oscillate, the problem is likely that your disc loading is too light for...
