meant to tell you - in terms of tools, I have bought one other thing. I went to Radio Shack and grabbed an Arduino Uno board. Cheap, and very useful if you wish to learn the basics of the Multiwii format. This format of Flight Controller is much more complicated than the Naza that seems all the rage on MRF, or the KK2.0 that is unobtainable at the moment. But it offers the advantage of having the add-ons at your fingertips, as long as you have the patience to figure it out and do the research.
If you are not familiar - it's all based on open-source hardware and software - and people the world over put the code and hardware configurations they have tested online for FREE. So that is an advantage in itself, and then when you think you can have the Naza features and much more, for 1/4 the prce (not counting sweat equity!), it makes it even more appealing.
