Hi I'm Iain from Burnley in England,

I'm a newbie on here and fairly new to Quadcopters. I work as a Manufacturing Engineer for an automotive electronics manufacturer, originally a mechanical engineering apprentice and later went on to study electronics, my current job involves, mechanical and electronic design and building of test equipment for automotive electronics and switchgear. So building Quads is right up my street :)

I built my first quad using various parts from eBay and Hobbyking: Turnigy 2213 Motors, Turnigy Plush 30A ESC's, KK2 flight controller, Spektrum DX6i TX and Spektrum AR6115e RX. A home made frame using 10mm square section carbon fibre rods (approx 550mm). Turnigy nanotech 3300 3S batteries.

I've had a few flights with it and a few crashes too! all part of the fun I guess!, sort of getting to grips with orientation etc...

I've just bought (yesterday) a DJI Naza F450 kit, with the motors ESC's and props and DJI Naza flight controller, I built this up yesterday, very impressed with the quality of the kit, very tough moulded parts and all the other components seem very good quality. Had a bit of fun registering the software for the controller (Had to setup a gmail account because the activation email wouldn't come through my normal account). But I got there in the end.

If anyone has any tips or gain settings I should be using with the DJI Naza and the F450 then any advice would be greatly appreciated :02.47-tranquillity: I'm going to use a 3300 3s battery with it and my Spektrum DX6i etc.....

Cant wait til I am halfway decent at flying these things :tennis:

Fly,crash,glue,repeat!
Welcome Dingle, ER I mean Ian.can't help you with settings, but I'm sure someone will chime in.
That's a good choice you made for a first quad, quite robust and spares are readily available.

Hi Parky,

Glad to see that you got the bug, get used to it, it ain't going away with time! This dreaded disease grows on you and makes you smile everyday. Unless the weather is really bad and you can get your daily fix, you are going to be fine. If not, thanks to this forum... people suffering from the same disease seem to hang around and, really, have been through just about everything you can imagine. You'll see, it is of great help to read about crazy experimenting and view some good flying when you are grounded. You will very quickly realize that your are not the only one crazy about Multi Rotor (always referred to as MR, now you know, it is like a secret handshake around here...)

With respect to your new acquisition, good choice, the F-450 is a great ship, fairly sturdy and from which you can go to absolutely anything. I always left the factory settings with this MR (100 all around) until you are very intimate with the machine. This setting will allow you to do just about anything you want with the machine. Of course, you have to fly in ATT or GPS mode to do anything far away from you. Yes, it is possible to fly in manual mode very close to you but, to me, the fun isn't there. It is like driving a Ford model T with the original engine (manual mode) while you can drive it with a 454 Chevy (ATT or GPS). I do not know anyone who can fly this thing 1/4 mile away and do something half decent with a camera... Use the technology that allowed the MR to exist in the first place, and develop some skills from there. Of course, in am not suggesting to fly that far away as you begin you happy venture in this very rewarding hobby. Start close to you, with the nose of the ship pointing forward as to match your right stick (mode 2) movements before changing the orientation of your MR. When you feel confortable with all orientations, venture further away. It is a good idea to identify the front of your ship (orange tape, ball, LED, etc...) to help you initially. Also, do yourself a favor; do not fly DJI props, they will hand up costing you a bundle.... APC props are good and cheap and Graupner is the King, when you graduate from beginners school.

Hoping this helps,

Rodge

Cheers JB and less of the Dingle! ;-)

Looking forward to learning to fly the F450, Friday is looking like favourite as I have the day off. I've just bought myself a GoPro 3 Silver edition, but not going to strap it to the copter just yet, going to Austria on Saturday for Xmas, so I want to take the GoPro with me in one piece!.

Cheers for the reply Rodge,

My friends' wife is to blame for my sudden interest in MR's, I wasn't really aware of them until she mentioned them to me in to the pub one night, my friend and his wife are very much into walking and climbing and she showed me some footage of some climbers that had been filmed using MR's, the day after I was ordering parts!

Thanks for the advice on the settings, looking forward to Friday, weather permitting of course! (it is England after all!)

Cheers meme,

I'm going to be staying in Mayrhofen, but I've no plans to take my MR as there's Ski'ing/boarding to be done ;-), also I'm really not confident at flying yet and could do with a lot more practice. Cheers for the offer tho, that would have been cool.

Hi Parky

I would recommend the 8" Props over the 10s for flight performance they seem to handle better to me , but others may chime in with different views .
Good starter settings for the Naza F450 are usually 135 135 125 125 , and Atti 135 135 .. You can play around with these settings but they should get you going and should fly nicely for you.
Also you can upgrade to a 4s lipo for better performance.
