Thanks guy's...gonna run down now and see what they have in halfords and hopefully get an half hour out with the sj8 as weather has cleared up.

Hi Bluerex

The thin o ring is supposed to go on the boom and between the upper and lower engine mounts just before or after the locating hole in the boom. Linda explained this in a previous thread. It's an added anti vibration tool. They are then pinched between the upper and lower engine mount. But on the XM's I have built to date the o ring for the engine mounts has only been around 0.5 mm I suppose they could be bigger on the SKYJIB.

regards

Andrew

Hmm... I have the two 2mm mini-doughnuts threaded onto the 3mm bolts either side of the boot mounts (damn I wish I could draw). I cannot see what to do with the 1mm O ring that I had to slide onto the boom. I'm also not convinced that I have the motors sitting square. One problem I find is that the mounts are so beautifully made that if things are not sitting perfectly the 3mm bolts jam up and I can't feel if they are pulling down properly.

So where the hell is that 1mm O ring??????

Hi Scott , the Lilliputs are good but can go blue screen .. But I think there best about and if your not going to be flying out of LOS then I would probably go for one of those .
Other one to consider is the no blue screen fpv monitors from first person view in the Uk or Bevrc if you want to buy from overseas as they ship out pretty fast from there.
Sounds like your getting on well with the big fella :)

How is the Foxtech in bright daylight? Hard to tell and separate the marketing hype from reality. I have a Pyle 9 inch and have parked it on a shelf. Saw that SmallHD is coming out with a 7 inch 1200nit unit but the price is staggering.

Whats bright daylight.. I live in the UK where we aint seen the sun in months! ;-)

Its fine. I am only using it for positioning the camera. Its not a good as the Lilliput that i usually have on a tripod for the DOP but that blues screens to easily.

I have seen some crackers when I have been on sets but they are like over a £1000 a pop!. I have not looked at what is available since I got the Foxtech as it does the job. It also comes with a sunscreen which some on here velcro on the the monitor but I have not found a need to yet. Search on the forum I think Kloner started a thread when they first came out

Dave

PS all the best for 2013

Can I ask, if you were to do the build again, is there anything at all you would do differently? I'm thinking kit list?

You mentioned early on, I think in your youtube part 1, that you hoped you weren't going to regret being the 'guinea pig' by going with the new AXI 2820 Droidworx edition motors. Do you still think they are the right option?

BH that always a really tough question.. MMM I aint flown it enough yet to really comment BUT I was stuck between motors that were either to big or to small These where recommended by DroidWorx as the ones for this frame so thats what I used. I would say they do need 5 cell but I oke to spin me props fast so thats not a problem for me. I tried 14x4.5 on 4 cell and they just did not cut it for me. I had some 13" Xoar Carbons that where to big for my Y6 so I borrowed a couple more of Geoff at QC and a couple of 5 cells and it was a different machine.

ANOTHER few hundred quid later and I have her pretty much as I want her. Cant really see anything different I would do other than possibly retracts if I stich a Z15 on it at some point or make her in to a two man machine.

Where are you in the UK?

Dave

Hi Dave

Thanks for your reply.

I'm interested in the Zenmuse and retracts but I don't want to go the S800 route for the bad press but more importantly I do occasionally want to carry a Nikon D800, probably just for stills. The wind issue concerns me hence the interest in your solution.

At the moment I use a mast for elevated shots. My GH2 is more than enough for video that I would want to do. Obviously D800 stills would not require a sophisticated gimbal, but if I did go that route then I might avoid the expense of the Z15. Options options, just too many! I just don't want to spend 10k and find that I don't have the ideal solution for me!! (I am in Bristol.) Steve

Next time you are put North give me a shot and Ill show yo have us Northern boys do it! ;-)

You dont have to spend 10k if you re wanting just photos from a GH2. The Y6 I have for sale would be more than capable and 100 times more versatile than your pole!

Dave

Dave I might just take you up on that offer. Your mate Geoff is currently quoting me on the set up almost identical to yours. That is why I genuinely wanted to know if you would do anything different. He has recommended different motors, that is about the only difference and i fancy the new coaxial retracts if I put a zenmuse on it.

I will still be able to get my pole in all sorts of places you can't get your X4!! :)

Bollocks! only if you are shooting by pushing up though trees.... mmm saying that me 13" carbons can hack 1/2" thick fingers guess a couple of branches would be no mither!

BTW anytime you want to see her in action drop me a line. I do have a place in Northampton I have forever permissions to fly at and its such a big estate and project Ill be living there again next year for a few months... what am I talking about this year!
