Aerial Fun
Hey Jfro,
Im very close to taking the superx off of my vulcan x8 and either turning the vulcan into a flat hex or getting another flight controller. The Superx works pretty good when the winds are calm, but it gets slightly hairy when the winds pickup. On Friday I was doing a gig and the winds were around 15-20mph and it was doing actually ok, but it got slightly weird. When I started to come down to land it would suddenly cut motor power, it did it a few times. I would recover by giving it more power until I got her to land. Im going to check the black box and see what the issue was, do you mind giving me your gains you ran? Also what FC would you recommend for an X8?
Thanks Again,

That was similar to my experience, although, I always felt like it was in control in the real high winds. It just didn't sound great, bounced around, but stayed in the air....
I took the my SuperX off my x8 earlier this year. It's now on a heavy lift quad. I don't remember what my settings were and don't have any black box data saved from the X8. I was just a bit disillusioned with the way it handles my x8. I've heard others say the same thing but have found a few that have it dialed in. Maybe my failure, but I gave it a fare amount of effort.
I find DJI FC's add an element of stress the more money I put in the air. While I like my x8 with Naza V2, there still is that nagging fly away thought lurking in my brain. I'm thinking a y6 w/ 400kv motors to carry a midsize camera, might be a good platform to gain some more confidence in the Pixhawk. I've seen and heard some larger MR's on Pixhawk, but it usually by someone who knows it very well. There are so many features, I think I'll have to reduce them down and master the basics first
Both my crash/ testing quad with Pixhawk and my heavy lift quad w/ SuperX fly very nicely. I may put a pixhawk on my X8 in the future. Really undecided. Not sure there is alot of large X8's out there to make much of a decision.
I don't think I'm in a position to give good advice on a flight controller for an X8. I'm still searching myself.
