i've seen a couple of different versions of this on RCG and RCRunryder. the cleanest install came from Turkey and works just like the baclight on the 8FG. on whenever you touch the selection buttons or the wheel, then a 5sec delay until it turns off. google, 12FG backlight mod. cheers, Brian

have you searched the DIY Drones forums. the geeks over their are incredible programmers & may have an old prototype or be willing to help you build your own. i hope this helps a little, Brian
