Hi Jonathan,
I ran into a very similar problem on a folding frame design exercise I'm working on. I found a location solution for single component ESCs by placing them in a plastic housing located near the base of the folding arm next to the hinge point. As you can see in the following...
Hmm....has anyone run an offset coaxial X6 with three up at 0-120-240...and three down at 60-180-300? That way you could run bigger prop circles on each side. I saw a link yesterday http://www.multirotorforums.com/showthread.php?18276-Rimcopters where someone had flown this arrangement and...
NP atpfilms...much of what I'm looking for too. Thanks for your comment and info.
I take it you are calculating needed thrust with the weight of the 20,000 batteries at 1316g (AUW/6)? Do you know your motors with 16x5 props will put out that much thrust ea. at 54% throttle? I'd think...
Hi R_Lefebvre....thanks for your comments. The design I'm working on is posted here http://www.multirotorforums.com/showthread.php?18278-X8-Design-Study. It is a large X8 folding frame and fitted case design for portability and heavy weight capability. I'm designing the frame in 3D cad to...
I like the idea of both the Y frame and the stacked X8. Nice work. I'll play around with some wheel rim ideas and see what I come up with. Most will likely be similar to what you've already accomplished. Thanks for showing them...TP.
Here's another fanciful design I did that used a ring and spur gears to fold the landing legs up under the frame strut arms. Interesting but too flimsy to be practical.
Here are some rim rotor designs I was playing around with some time ago. ABS plate was what I figured to use for the frame components. The prop was just a fanciful idea. I too saw the video about the ABL Ring rig right after he first posted it. Looked like a lot of fun. I really like the...
Hi Simplyfly....great design and execution. I love ingenuity. The ring idea intrigued me too a couple of years ago. Here is one of the rim motor designs I came up with that used an offset X8 configuration. The scimitar props are my design drawn at 15". The diagonal center on the motors is...
Great info!! Thanks again. It appears from weight calculations that my design is well within range of the market. Now i'll have to build it out to know for sure. Step by step...the 3d printer is next.
Thanks Kloner....that is interesting and helpful. I assume your airframe weight means ready to fly (includes motors/props/and controls) less batteries. Am I reading it right that you test rig's payload is 9 lbs? Motor weight makes up such a big percentage of frame weight depending on the...
