Multi-Rotors for Human Transportation...Is This the Future?

This "Jet Pack" looks a bit easier to park though... This video is there first high altitude test (they used a dummy in place of the human in this flight) I think this counts as a multi rotor.... Its two ducted fans driven by a single ic engine with simple joystick driven thrust vectoring.

My Y6 (Hopefully Low Cost) Build

I think after i got my proptotype flying and then drilled and cut away all the unneeded aluminium to try to make it as light as possible if its still too heavy to bolt my DSLR to it - then I may end up ordering one of rustys frame kits and cm-2 landing gear also.

My prototype frame is coming together... Soldering of ESCs next :)

My Y6 (Hopefully Low Cost) Build

Hi I spent last night assembling my motors, extending wires and balancing props. Heres my 0.684 square meters of propeller disc... My first step in construction.

What would you do - Internal vs External Wiring ?

This is my sketch of my Y6 that I will soon start building (parts are arriving daily). Today a nice big roll of 14awg wire arrived and I realised if I extend the motor wires by 400mm each thats 18 x 400mm or 7.2meters of wire. This is obviously going to add a substantial additional weight just...

    Props

Slightly unrelated question but ive heard 550 and 330 sized frames mentioned a few times now. what exactly does this number refer to. is it radius from the centre to the motor, or diameter, or motor separation distance???

Gas Powered, Super Heavy Lift! You Have To See This!

whats this guys theory on those red cloth tubes around the props - they move with the stick in the cockpit - thrust vectoring ??? i think the only way to do this with IC engines is to use variable pitch props... talking of variable pitch props has anyone ever used them on an RC multirotor -...

What happens in a failure scenario with the variuos different FC boards and Software?

hi stacky - i suspect thats exactly how it works - but i dont know have never seen a design or spec document or any source code for a uav controller. My curiosity is simply that. I never plan to build a copter that will need such a function. As a software designer (in a previous life) I always...

What happens in a failure scenario with the variuos different FC boards and Software?

Do you have any photos of those - I used to fly and teach full size paragliding.

What happens in a failure scenario with the variuos different FC boards and Software?

I guess my question can only be answered by the developers of the products as unless any of you have been in that situation and can described accurately what happened in that second of panic as all your equipment started falling out of the sky.

What happens in a failure scenario with the variuos different FC boards and Software?

Yes Ive watched that video - very impressive - in fact i think it was that video that convinced me that when i build my rig it will be with redundancy in it. But my original question was in simpler terms - how do the different software packages in the different products deal with a motor out...

Is there harm in cutting shrink wrap off of ESC's ?

I usually cut a hole in my ESCs heat shrink exposing most of the aluminium heat sink. It surprises me sometimes to cut the hole to find a nice looking anodised and finned heat sink that had no chance of any airflow.

ESC initialazation problem in cold temperatures

Could be the batteries not having enough current in the cold temperatures so your getting a low battery cut off.

What happens in a failure scenario with the variuos different FC boards and Software?

Presumably there is no way the FC can know that a motor has failed and therefore is reacting to abnormal rotational and acceleration data. So assuming a rig with some redundancy ie Octo or X8 or Y6 etc what would happen if the thrust left after a motor failure was not sufficient in one corner...

    Woohooo, it's almost done!

Gunter, Can you let me know what alloy and what gauge your 3/4 inch tubing for your booms is. Ive got some cheapy cheap 6063 16swg stuff im going to start building with but im thinking a stiffer alloy and lighter guage would be better so may swap it out later. Ive found a souce for some 20swg...
