Can a drone under .55# be used commercially without a license?

No. If you get paid to fly you or someone in your employ must be a licensed pilot as per FAA's Small UAS Rule part 107.

    What drone to get

That's a tall order my friend, even for a Pixhawk. A Pixhawk 2 (Cube) with a companion Edison computer may be better suited, but still, some of the required technology is still in its infancy, and the hardware that is available is very expensive.

    What drone to get

Programming is not the correct term. What you are talking about is Mission Planning. In other words, instructing the aircraft to take off from point A (AKA the Home position), climb to a give altitude, fly to point B (AKA a Destination or a Way Point), Loiter at a given altitude for a...

    What drone to get

There are some things wrong here.. #1: Flying anything larger that your typical $10.00 drone or something like a TinyWhoop/Blade Inductrix indoors is unsafe and foolish. I have no doubt that several "experts" will disagree, but that does not change a thing. #2. Televisions, cable set top...

    Transmitter/Receiver module for DYI Quadcopter

Yep, you are. Arduino based FCs are dinosaurs, and so is MultiWii. For what you want to do you need something like a Pixhawk running AruduCopter , and a radio using a UHF transmitter module and a UHF receiver.

Need Help! Have a DX6i - Best GPS Drone

I second that. I have 3 aircraft (2 quads and a Hex) with Pixhawks. The learning curve is on the steep side, but once you get the basics down, you will find that Pixhawk is reliable, accurate, feature rich, and much less expensive that a comparable DJI NAZA or Eagle Tree Vector system...

Discussion What "drones" do you own?

I do not have any drones. I do have two 450 helicopters, a Tarot 680 Pro Hexacopter, a Tarot 650 Sport Quadcopter that is stretched to 1040mm, an X-666 quadcopter, a Nighthawk 250 FPV racing quadcopter, a Syma X5-SW Quadcopter with 5.8gHz FPV, and a brandy new Hover Way micro quadcopter. My...

Recreational Use in a No Fly Zone - HELP!!!

Unfortunately none of that applies to an unmodified DJI product. On the other hand, if this character was flying in active airspace, either he had clearance from the tower, or he was being stupid. I hope it was the former and not the latter... As for the original poster, as long as he has...

Recreational Use in a No Fly Zone - HELP!!!

Well, since you were able to circumvent the No-Fly Zone restrictions, why don't you offer to help the OP off line? My solution is simple: Dump DJI.

Recreational Use in a No Fly Zone - HELP!!!

This will not work. The issue with DJI is they (in their infinite wisdom) "hard code" No-Fly Zones into the firmware.

Recreational Use in a No Fly Zone - HELP!!!

Yep, DJI has you by the short and curlies which is just one of the reasons I fly aircraft with Pixhawk flight controllers. For your realty work, you must be a licensed pilot or have a licensed pilot at the controls and you must get a 333 waiver from the FAA. This is due to the fact that if you...

Discussion What "drones" do you own?

I don't have any "drones". I do have two 450 FBL helis with Tarot ZYX S-2 gyros, a Tarot 680 Pro Hex with a Pixhawk, M8N GPS, 2 axis gimbal, retracts, 915mHz telemetry, Craft and Theory Flight Deck telemetry and OLED display and FlyTron Navigation strobes, a Tarot 650 Sport stretched to 1040mm...

    Suggestion for 10kg total multirotor

I think you are going about this the wrong way. Using the motor/prop maximum thrust is totally useless. What you want to do is use the motor/prop thrust at HOVER THROTTLE (50% throttle, or MID STICK). So, what you need are motors and props that will give you a MINIMUM of 1666 grams (1.6...
